Yeah, #5 is general but I think Plats posts also speaks to number 5. He, admittedly, was being a smartass. I know when I have my users send me smart ass remarks like that, I don't even bother to read the message. If anything, I ban them longer or permanently. It's not so much what you say, strictly my opinion, but how you say it.

Unless something is so blatantly wrong, I've always tried to avoid 'confrontational' messages and instead, try to leave it open for conversation. I've even been moderated by prepubuscent (sp) 13 yr olds on a video game forum who had no clue what they were doing...and I was PISSED. But, understanding the other side, I iniated a conversation and a mutual understanding was met.

Believe me, I feel the pain from both sides. I know what it's like to enforce rules or policies that you may not agree with, and I know what's its like to be a victim as a end user. In the end, I've found the most success with the old adage that you catch more bees with honey.

It's also very similar to my work motto: You may live in a democracy, you don't work in one. Yeah...my subbordinates used to love when I pulled that one on them! LOL!!!
