7days veg. then flower?! Can this be done?
Im still in the process of my first grow and after watching a grow video on google video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...grow+marijuana) and taking note, in that video they only grow the cuttings (clones) for 7 days and after that they go straight into flowering mode. I was a bit shocked because I thought you have to veg. for a 4 weeks or so before going flowering mode. If this is true and you can just veg. for 7 days then I'm going to use this schedule on my next grow to cut down some time. So basically, I just want to know if this can be done or was I mistaken? and will this significantly reduce yield? Thanks!

Yes you can do it, and yes it will cut down on yield. This is more for a SOG or Sea OF Green veg time where you grow 4 to 6 plants PSF, many small plants in a short time.

A rooted clone can be vegged for one week and flowered for 10 weeks (strain depending of course) and still come out at 3 feet tall. As long as there is enough light, enough nutrients, enough ventillation, and enough care the plants will grow very fast. If you look at Tranoble's grow in Growroom, he only vegges for 7 days before flowering and he ends up with 3 feet tall and huge colas. Obviously has some damn good experience, but shows its possible if the environment is controlled enough. For most people growing under flurescents or something like that, the clones need 4-5 weeks to veg to be a significent enough size to flower and produce good bit of bud.
I would think some strains are better at it then others, and yes the concept is based on a ton of plants producing less bud on each plant but made up with the amount of harvests and number of plants.

If you grow plants from seed, you cannot do this. Well, you can put them in 12/12, but cannabis plants aren't sexually mature after only a week, so they will veg themselves until their sex is determined, regardless of the light cycle. Clones from a sexually mature mother can be flowered at one week though.

3-4 weeks is when their sex is determined. I just look for preflowers. When they show up, you can flower them. You can generally tell the sex just from the preflowers, without flowering them, if you're patient enough. That's what I usually do, so I can weed out the males before flowering.

It's not the node count, but whether the leaf placement is still opposite (immature) or alternating (mature).

A plant should have 4 to 5 nodes IMO before flowering from seed.
