Oh no, another first time cabinet post!

Heya Everyone.

I am sure you must get sick of all these posts but as a noob grower I need all the help I can get! I and hoping you will take a quick look at my proposed set up and point out any obvious flaws. I am fairly confident on the actual growing tecniques (famous last words?!?) but the hardware I am less sure on.


The closet I plan to use is is a little under 3.5ft x 3.5ft x 8ft. It is a brick structure with a concrete floor.

Lighting wil conists of a 400w HPS lamp and reflector: http://www.basementlighting.com/Merc...e=1/PROD/NFAS4 This set contains a multi spectrum lamp, is this really required?

I'll pick up a multi speed fan from the local DIY shop.

The plants will be grown on a raised platform to keep them off the concret floor and to allow for drainage trays. Maximun yearly yield isnt too important to me so I am not planning on splitting this space for vegatative and flowering compartment. Once the first batch has been harvested I will just start from scratch with cuttings.

I am wondering if the above lighting is over kill or not, would I be better using a 250W bulb?

I'm not too sure about ventillation either. Seeing as its a brick closet and quite tall will additional ventillation be needed in your opinions? It would be easy enough to open the door after work as this isnt any sort of 'stealth' set up.

Anyway, opinions and comments would be greatly appreciated and hopefully within a week or 2 I will be able to start posting my growing diary

The light is good, yeah you can use it throughout the whole grow, you'll come to realise that the heat really needs to be dealt with, (taken out) or your looking at temperatures into the 90's and above, are you going to be using an extraction fan?

Is your light a fan cooled?In the closet all the heat will stay in the closet.
vent it out of there.Old air out new air in.I have an 2' wide by 8' long by 8' high closet and the 400w light heats up the room to around 90* with the door crack open and higher closed.Bring in fresh air and circulate it around
the closet.Vent the old air out.It just like we do {breathing} in with the good out with the bad.You can get lights with fan vented,I use a sun-2 with a 6"
vent and a 6" vortex fan to cool the light down and vent the hot air out in the attic.Hope this helps you .

OK point taken. Adding the following extractor http://www.uk420store.com/shop/produ...roducts_id=605 . Pretty expensive for something that just sucks up a bit of air but such is life I guess

Its probaly better to buy a more powerful fan like a 420m3/hour, even if you don't need it at full power, you can dial it down with a fan speed controller and if you ever decide to uprgrade to a 1000w you don't have to upgrade your equiptment, its also less noisy. Also, buy here www.growell.co.uk, best prices I've seen. Personally I would buy an air cooled reflector but its really your decision to make, I'm still investigating the best possible option.
