Swiss Miss good news :D
The Swiss Miss (Nirvana) that I planted from seed at the beginning of July is starting to show definite signs of gender and it looks to be a female. I was checking her out this morning and at the top, in one of the node regions where the stem meets the branch, I saw two very small calyx's (think that's right?) with two, small, white hairy pistils growing out of each of them. I could have jumped for joy! This is my first grow so I was pleased as punch.
What surprises me the most is that she had undergone some stress at the beginning of her vegetative life because we had a massive heat wave. She never suffered from neglect as I kept a close eye on her and her siblings to be sure that they had plenty to drink, and they never wilted or hung down, but still... I'm surprised that the heat didn't turn her male. I'm still keeping a close eye on her for hermaphrodism though, just in case. Her other siblings aren't quite as ready to show sex yet. Which is another thing that surprised me about her, because she's always been the taller of the bunch at about 18 to 20 inches. I had my suscpicions she was going to be male because of that. She is definitely healthy and well developed. I'll have some pics up soon... just as soon as the calyx is developed enough to show up on a pic. It's visible with the naked eye but still small.
Also, out of the 5 Lowryder I've planted, 4 were male and 1 was female. They were planted a week or so into July. I've kept the males around so I can breed the female for seeds, and I'm thinking that I'm going to breed the Swiss Miss that showed her gender today with some male lowryders as well. Seeing as how the male lowryders were so healthy and so is this Swiss Miss, I may get something good out of this. I was disappointed in having 4 male Lowryders but the little Miss made up for it today
Hope you're all doing well!Sabrinaleena Reviewed by Sabrinaleena on .
