caller number nine, not ten of course...
so there's this awesome local radio station, WRNR 103.1. this week they are giving away tickets to see an artists showcase of G.Love. I happen to be madly and insanely in love with G.Love formerly G.Love and Special Sauce; my favorite singer songwriter musician on the face of the earth.
i have a good relationship with WRNR. my mom is friends with one of the late night hosts, Amy Mann (not aimee mann). a few years back i won a fender squire signed by John Mayer from RNR and a few weeks ago I won tickets to see Fiona Apple at Wolftrap.
so of course i leaped at the chance to win tickets to see my beloved G, and i hoped i would have some luck. well, i ended up being caller number 9, not 10. one call away from pure bliss. DAMN YOU CALLER NUMBER TEN, MICHEAL FROM GLEN BURNIE, DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!! i had my mom, dad and ex boyfriend calling for me too. luckily i have the rest of the week to listen and hopefully win some tickets.
a useless thread, but i needed to get that off my chest.

I remember back in the early 80s, I guess it was '82, on Mothers' Day, our local rock radio station had a 'Rush Block Party Weekend'. If they played two Rush songs in a row and you were the 1st caller, you won a $100 and a complete Rush music catalog. Well, I was listening to the radio doing some house chores, and I heard a Rush song follow another one, so I dialed...and won!
So, I was all excited and happy and stuff, but I got back to work on the chores. A couple of hours go by and I hear a Rush song follow another Rush song, again. So I dial in and...win AGAIN! But they had some rule about the same person not being eligible, so I got my foster sister real fast and had her talk to them. I dragged her with me when we went to pick up the two Rush catalogs and the $200, and I gave her $50 of it.
Considering I live in a pretty populated city, I was amazed to win even once, but twice in two hours, that was just crazy lucky. And since that day, I've tried to win lotsa other radio stuff, but have never won a thing again. I think I used up my entire lifetime of radio call-in luck on that one day.

i used to try to win hfs stuff alot but i was never even close.
we could rise black and white unbound and make them pay
for every tear, for every fear, defend our yesterdays
we aren\'t revolutionaries, but we are the revolution! sometimes I think that the whole movement is just me and you, or that maybe we\'d all be better off if that were true, because then at least we\'d know where we stand. and we could tell our comrades apart from \"the man\"

Hah, yeah, I totally remember what I did with the money. My foster parents said I had to put into savings half of all 'earned money', and I argued that I had won that money, not earned it. They disagreed, and wanted me to deposit half. I got stubborn and booked off with a friend, and we played Asteroids and Joist until every dime of my $150 was gone. Took all day! *laugh*
