I believe the essence of every religion is meant to achieve peace. When humanity twists their teachings to their own benefit, you have chaos.
I completely agree with that last part, but the problem is that humanity has had their mitts on the teachings and written word from many religions for centuries now.

So, in my mind, that makes most religions today nothing more than a chaotic business hell-bent to either (a) make money, (b) carry out political agendas, or (c) brainwash the masses with a distorted version of that religion's "truth".

Don't get me wrong, I respect someone's decision to be religious, but at this point in my life, I haven't found one that's "for me" quite yet. I enjoy learning about other religions, but it seems the more I read, the more I'm turned off from the idea of a higher being. That's a whole other discussion though, lol.
