Money Making Idea
I saw that when the first shipment of the Xbox 360's came in, there were people selling them on Ebay for up to $2,000.
So i thought that if people were buying $400 systems for $2,000, isn't it logical that if i pre-ordered a $600 PS3, i could expect to sell it for up to $3,000?
I think i might do that, and then even if no one buys it, i'll return it to the store with the recipet, for the full price....usedchemicals Reviewed by usedchemicals on . Well, it can work and it can't. I've been doing this since the first PlayStation..with a variety of 'hot' toys. It doesn't always work out.
The problem nowadays is that when it comes to consoles, some retailers are playing a new game. You can reserve a system and get put on the 'list'. But to actually get your system on the first day, they want you to trade in old games and systems. Even if you pay for the system in full, only people that trade in old stuff get priority. Complete bullshit.
Your best bet is to shop around at non-traditional retailers...music stores, Walmart, Target, etc. Not all of them have a 'reservation' process so it's first come first served. Show up with the money and go home happy. Then you can turn around and sell it for maximum profit.
Did this with the Nintendo DS and PSP. Everyone sold out of the DS. Found them at a music store in an outlet mall. Bought the last 5 they had. Sold 2 for aorund $600, 1 for $400, and 1 for $350. With the PSP, I found them at Walmart. Problem was, they said 1 per customer 1 per *visit*. I showed up there at opening time, bought 1, walked out and put it in my car. Did this 3 more times to get 4. The 3 I sold all went for $600+.

You may have big success doing this. That is if the Wii doesn't put sony out of business. I've heard that nintendo allready has a huge list of developers wanting to work with them. It seems that the game library for the Wii when it launches is gonna be massive. Sony on the other hand only has a handfull of confirmed games for the Ps3. Working to your atvantage is the fact that sony is only shipping something like 2 million units WORLDWIDE. They're causing a shortage on purpose. They may be counting on dudes like you to price-gouge the consoles and make it seem like the system to have. Me and some buds from work all wen in on a few Ps2s when they launched. We didn't make a shitload of money but we did all pull in some spare change each.

One of the newer strategies is shorting manufacturing. These companies know they can move their consoles, they just want to move as many as possible.
I wouldn't worry about Nintendo, though. Nintendo has a firm fan base. Many parents are also aware of their image as a 'family friendly' company. Whether you go PS3 or Wii, it'll be about timing and it'll be about pricing. Remember...this has been going on for a while. People are getting savvy...they know they're getting ripped off, but they still only want to bend over only as far as they need to.
