yeah but it will stretch like a bitch they need more light than most house plants but if u just give it some more light from a window it will do ok i think. Just make sure it has enough light. What about guests in ur apartment? are u a lonely loser who has no friends then yeah go for it. haha just joking make sure not too many ppl will see it that u dont want to see it.

Check out the closet/grow cabinet category. There are a large number of us who grow in hidden cabinets that are disguised as fish tank stands, filing cabinets, speakers, computers, etc...
As for just leaving the plant out in the open to grow, you run the risk of someone unfriendly seeing it and getting you in trouble for it. Be safe. Spend the money to keep yourself safe if you are going to grow.

I have an apartment, and I want to grow a plant
I grew in a two bedroom apartment before. It was a standard apt but the master bedroom (mine) was walk in closet of which I dedicated the back to. I grew 4-5 soil plants with a 400w HPS. They grew pretty thick and pretty big
It was my first grow, and it didn't turn out so well. I later learned that I too overwatered, (newbie mistake of being excited) and that at some points the light was too close etc. Not only that but since I was afraid to cut a hole in the roof of the apartment unit I was in, there was no proper ventilation in the room at all.
Anyways, If you are planning on growing indoors without fancy equipment such as some form of adequate lighting ie: flourescent, HPS, Metal Hailide then you shouldn't attempt growing indoors. The exception to this would be if in your case you were just getting the seedling started under minimal light which, indoors has plenty of, and then later transplanting to soil outside. From what I can tell that is not your intentions?\"sell crazy some place else, cause we\'re all stocked up here\". - Jack Nicholson As Good As It Gets

Like everyone says, you can get by with relatively little budget. A plant out in the living room is more suspicious then a light in the closet. You dont need many CFLs (cheap) to grow some perfectly good bud. Its a fun hobby.
