Since history IS invariably written by interested parties and is infinately biased in favour of the victor I would say there is no such thing as historic fact.
In modern day we have become more informed as a populace however I still believe my (and your) goverment lie and cover up their mistakes as best they can. Corruption of the truth is almost mandatory for politicians.
History is also objective and written from the perspective of a few and we all know it's difficult for people to agree, anyone who has collected eye witness statements from a traffic accident will soon discover the disparities between different peoples versions of events.

I disagree with "written from the perspective of a few". I agree with what you have said however we are at opposite ends of the spectrum on this. I believe very little is BS.

I agree that we cannot put that on her specifically and deny what every other empire has done, but to consider ourselves in some age of enlightenment where we can look onto history or other societies and make value judgments on their actions, is bullshit. we do the same, we always will, and unfortunately, so will everyone else. However, I belive, that we must take responsibility and to simply shrug our burden off our shoulders by exusing our actions because everyone else has done it is irresponsible and ignorant. We cannot feel like victims because we aren't racist or we didn't have slaves. You dont' even know that you didn't in your family history, I gaurantee you that. The consequcnes of teh actions of OUR people have fucked over a lot of others, and visa versa.
