You need to be 18 to enter a coffeeshop. Buying in small quantities is tolerated - it is not actually legal. The law is extremely messed up, growing is for example just as illegal as it is anywhere else, and they do bust growers.

When you go there, try to avoid the tourist traps. And do not go around smoking up on the streets, only low-lives and tourists do that. Smoke up in the shop itself or at a friends place, or in a park - and no, not in your hotel.

What are some of amsterdams "tourist traps"??? and why not smoke in the hoteL?

Because it is not 100% legal, it is only tolerated. This does not apply to public places though - people will look at you strangely if you walk around town with a spiff, for example. A hotel will not tolerate weed on their premises, and the police will probably approach you if you smoke in public places. There are exceptions, but generally, smoking is only tolerated at festivals, in the coffeeshop itself, in a quiet part of the park or in your own home.

I would like to know about said tourist traps as well. I'll make a new thread a year or two down the road though...I wonder if anybody else has planned this far in advance to post something? Will I even remember? I hope so.

THIS IS A MAIN POINT PEOPLE.

just plz dont go over there and be all like "yeah im from ***" we smoke it harder, look at me im wasted!!"

cos at the end of the day thats what WOULD make it illegal for tourists to toke it up out there:thumbsup: act adult smoke what u need dont go overboard.


plus when a guy runs up to you in the street and shout JOHNNY, COCAINE! in your face (and trust me it WILL happen) just carry on walking and dont look em in the eye or they wont leave you alone.

Explain said "Johnny Cocaine" please. Seems like some useful information. Any reason as to why it is done? Something a tourist does to trigger it?
