Is the weed and hash in Amsterdam potent (more potent than a lot of U.S. marijuana)? Or do a lot of people see Amsterdam as a weed capitol just because of its "accepted use?"

Dutch strains and a lot of the marijuana available in coffee shops, etc..from what I understand are very high in THC content, but then again, here in the states you can grow the same kind of weed, you just need to know what you're doing. But to answer your question, I'm sure that's where the finest marijuana in the world is at.

Dude, think about it:

It's a legal business therefore they need farmers who know every ancient farmer secret to grow plants. This also requires a license that prooves you are a legitamte guranteed kick ass farmer. They grow it and I mean they grow it real good.
They sell those plants to stores.

Or maybe the coffee shops just grow their own good strains to sell. Depends which coffee shop you go to that grows it better, kinda like over here in some ways.

Nope, growing is still illegal in the Netherlands, which is why it is an insane rule. They are allowed to sell small quantities. They are not allowed to buy stuff. Just as anywhere else, all the weed grown is grown illegally, bought illegally - and then packed and sold through the coffeeshop. Those aren't 100% legal either, but the state decides not to prosecute.

And believe me, they do bust growers - the busted a 3-room setup a couple of weeks ago just opposite of my boyfriend's place. They missed the one around the corner and directly above him, but hey. Most of them are caught for illegally tapping electricity, plus even if you pay, the state gets curious if you use a lot of electricity.

But for the quality - I love it. You just have a lot of selection and don't have to be difficult about it. If I was able to buy legally where I am now, I wouldn't grow - but since I can't, and hate the hassle of trying to get anything close to my quality standards, I am actually starting to grow now. Purely for myself, 3 plant setup - I still don't wanna get busted.

If you are planning on going to Amsterdam, avoid the touristy shops - ask someone local to suggest a good coffeeshop. I can give you recommendations in The Hague, but not for Amsterdam, sorry.

The Dutch call it "gedoogd", meaning tolerated. It is tolerated that you own small quantities for personal use and usage within your home or the coffeeshop itself. For me, only tourists and low-lives actually walk in the streets with a spiff. And yes, the police will probably comment on that.

The coffeeshop is allowed to sell small quantities per customer, I think up to 5 grams, but not sure. Nevertheless, they are not allowed to buy it, so their purchasing is illegal in any case. It's a very weird law all around....

There are only a handful of coffeeshops allowed to sell both MJ and alcohol, for example, because it is really difficult to get the proper papers-

The people growing in the Netherlands are just as illegal as they are anywhere else, and they do get busted. If you are growing 2-3 plants on your balcony, nothing much will happen, but the real rooms or appartments are facing serious charges in the Netherlands as well. The thing is, the bigger growers are not MJ lovers, but almost always connected.

We were offered a grow share once, where you put up 2.000â?¬ and get 10.000â?¬ after 2-3 months when everything is harvested - unless, of course, the appartment is being busted. Sounds like easy money, but I am very glad my former bf did not take it.

My main reason for starting to grow myself is that I refuse to hand my money to big time criminals or having to associate with serious crime just for a smoke. That unfortunately is the same in the Netherlands - the money goes mostly to organized crime or people connected to crime. Nevertheless, I am acutely aware of the fact that what I am doing is illegal in Germany - and I will take care to have no more than 2-4 plants in a stealth cab setup... If they then bust me, nothing much will happen to me - I luckily live in a state that is pretty lenient. Where I live, the rules are pretty much the same as in the Netherlands - the police CAN, but do not have to, arrest you if caught with a small amount of MJ... and they usually don't.
