Marijuana tax stamp

I've noticed that some states have a tax stamp you can buy for marijuana..From what I understand, if you get busted, and you have paid the tax for your pot, there's certain fines that they can't make you pay, correct? Or maybe I understand this incorrectly, but I was hoping maybe someone could give me some insight into why you can pay taxes for something that's illegal to posess..

i think you're talking about the marihuana stamp tax act of 1937research this). first you have to have the marijuana to obtain the stamp, but you have to have the stamp to legally possess marijuana. so right there you are self-incriminating yourself. this was the only way Anslinger could make marijuana illegal. also,I don't think any stamps were ever made. they also outlawed machine guns this way.

it seems like every year hear in OK you hear about them selling the stamps and out of like 7 stamps last year i think 2 got busted?? For what----other than the obvious i have no idea.

The stamps are useless. Just a way to charge you with another offense if you are caught without them. Nobody actually buys that crap. They also sell tax stamps for cocaine, heroin, and every other drug, you are supposed to attach them to the plastic bags you are selling the drugs in. It's dumb, if they want marijuana and other drugs to be taxed... maybe they should LEGALIZE THEM.

My state is the same way, some stupid tax stamp for drugs. Every time I have been popped the popos never looked for some tax stamp. They just looked for the real McCoy. The people that buy them are not supposed to be turned over to the popos, RIGHT.

this process was established in 1937 to deter mexican migrant farmers in the western states from using MJ. Booze was the first to get a stamp, and the others were were added to the list. Since the Legal bodies that govern the status of legalialty of drugs and such weren't around, this law was passed initially to prosecute. It's a bogus stamp and they are actually not available to purchase. Now there may be a few states that have them. but for years, it was a law, that challanged, due to the fact that it was law and there wasn't a stamp for legal purchase. the supreme court said it was consitutional for the country to have a law that said you had to have one, but there wasn't one available.
