No, thats fine, exactly right. Keep it up high to suck up the hot air. Next you should let a thermostat control it to be much more efficient. Set it at 80 or so. Helps save the fan, filter and electric.

No, the fan would work best directly attacted too the filter. You can get by with the diagram setup, won't work very well.
