One person was dead and five others were hospitalized this afternoon in a shooting at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle building in downtown Seattle by a man who declared he was "angry with Israel."

Seattle police later arrested the alleged gunman, who reportedly had walked into the building between Lenora and Virginia streets on Third Avenue in Belltown and started shooting.

At least three victims were women, according Seattle Fire Department medics. Their names haven't been released, but one woman, described as 43, had been shot in the abdomen. The age of a second shooting victim was not available, but police said she was 17 weeks pregnant. She had been shot in the arm. Details about the other shooting victims were unavailable.

An employee in the building said she was at her desk when she heard what she at first thought were balloons popping.

"It went 'Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!' and then we heard a woman scream," said the employee, who asked that her name not be used.

"One of the receptionists told me that he shot her and then demanded that she call 911," the employee said. "He told the police that it was a hostage situation and he wanted us to get our weapons out of Israel."

Most of the workers were able to leave through a back door.

A few minutes later, the man surrendered to officers.

Most of the victims were able to exit the building on their own accord.

"I saw one friend â??â?? she had been shot twice in the stomach and was bleeding," the witness said.




The employee said the man apparently was buzzed through a security door by a receptionist.

According to Amy Wasser-Simpson, the vice president for planning and community services for the Jewish Federation, the man told staff members, "I'm a Muslim American; I'm angry at Israel," then began shooting, Wasser-Simpson said she heard the account from staff members who witnessed the shootings.

"A number of staff people heard some popping sounds, then they heard a scream," Wasser-Simpson said. "They escaped out the back door."

Shortly after that, one staff member who was shot twice escaped through the back door as well, Wasser-Simpson said.

Wasser-Simpson was not in the building because she was working from home today. She also is in charge of the organization for the moment because the federation's new chief executive officer has yet to start the job and the interim CEO is out of town.

Hundreds of people have died in Israel and Lebanon since Lebanon-based Hezbollah guerrillas seized two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid July 12, prompting Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon and a barrage of rockets fired at Israel by Hezbollah.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, founded in 1926, is an umbrella organization for the local Jewish community. It raises money for Jewish social-welfare organizations, runs youth and adult Jewish educational programs, and engages in efforts in support of Israel. It was a sponsor of the Solidarity with Israel rally on Mercer Island last Sunday.

The federation's mission is to ensure Jewish survival and enhance the quality of Jewish life locally, in Israel and worldwide.

Even as rabbis were trying to find out more about security in preparation for tonight's services, Robert Jacobs, the regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, was issuing a recommendation to every Jewish institution, synagogue and temple that they get their people out of their buildings "until we find out if it's a lone incident."

"We're trying to keep the community as calm as possible," he added. Rabbi Daniel Weiner of Temple De Hirsch Sinai had said he was checking with police to see if security there needed to be bolstered, if indeed, the shootings were related to wider issues.

But several rabbis said they were continuing with services anyway.

"Even if [the shooting] is based on hate, we're not going to let that have any kind of victory over our community gathering," said Rabbi Jonathan Singer of Seattle's Temple Beth Am.

Rabbi Daniel Weiner of Temple De Hirsch Sinai, which has locations in Seattle and Bellevue, said early this evening that he was checking with police to see if more security would be needed for that evening's service.

Rabbi Jim Mirel of Temple B'nai Torah in Bellevue said he was "extremely shocked, extremely saddened by the situation, and that his congregation was worried about a member of their temple who works at the federation

2 Dead, 5 Hurt In Safeway Shooting Rampage (Muslim)

An investigation is under way to determine why a Safeway warehouse employee walked into work and opened fire on his coworkers Sunday afternoon, killing one person and injuring five, including a Denver police officer.

The suspect, tentatively identified by witnesses as Michael Ford, was shot and killed during a shootout with SWAT officers inside the massive Safeway Denver Distribution Center, located near Interstate 70 and Colorado Boulevard.

"The officers confronted the suspect who was armed with the handgun. He fired at us, we fired at him," said Denver police Chief Gerry Whitman. "It was pretty quick ... I don't expect (officers) to negotiate when you get shot at."

Ford's mother and sister told reporters that Ford had just returned to work after a three-month leave of absence for personal reasons. They said Ford was a kind, caring person, who wouldn't hurt anyone but that he said he was being teased at work because he's a Muslim and he couldn't take it anymore.

His sister said when he came to visit them Sunday morning, he looked scared and nervous but she didn't know why. She told reporters that his last words to her were, "Allah will decide. I love you."


Now come to find out he wasnt being teased at work he just wanted to kill..

While the MSM plays up the disgruntled father angle, they downplay the fact that both were Muslim converts and that they used the language of jihad to justify their actions. This is not to say that Muhammed was not motivated by the loss of custody of his children, only that there were other motivations as well.

Schoolgirl beheadings spark revenge fears
Three teenage Christian girls were beheaded and a fourth was seriously wounded in a savage attack on Saturday by unidentified assailants in the Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi.

The girls were among a group of students from a private Christian high school who were ambushed while walking through a cocoa plantation in Poso Kota subdistrict on their way to class, police Major Riky Naldo said.

The area is close to the provincial capital of Poso, about 1000 kilometres northeast of Jakarta.

Naldo said the heads of the three dead victims were found several kilometres from their bodies.In Jakarta, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered the police to begin a hunt for the killers.

"In the holy month of Ramadan, we are again shocked by a sadistic crime in Poso that claimed the lives of three school students," he told reporters at the airport as he prepared to fly to Sumatra island.

"I condemn this barbarous killing, whoever the perpetrators are and whatever their motives."

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation, but Central Sulawesi has a roughly equal number of Muslims and Christians. The province was the scene of a bloody religious war in 2001-2002 that killed around 1000 people from both communities.

A government-mediated truce succeeded in ending the conflict in early 2002, but there have since been a series of bomb attacks and assassinations of Christians.
These included a blast at a market in Poso, a predominantly Christian town, that killed 22 people in May.

Christian leaders have repeatedly accused the authorities in Jakarta of not doing enough to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Christian-Muslim conflict in Sulawesi was an extension of a wider sectarian war in the nearby Maluku archipelago in which up to 9000 perished between 1999 and 2002.

The Maluku conflict intensified soon after it began with the arrival of volunteers belonging to Laskar Jihad, a newly created militia from Indonesia's main island of Java that was supported by hardline elements of the security forces.

Analysts and diplomats accused senior army commanders of funding and training the militia, which was hurriedly disbanded following the terrorist attacks on the tourist island of Bali in 2002 which claimed 202 lives, including 88 Australians.

On Friday, a former church minister who pleaded guilty to 35 counts of child abuse, including two charges of raping an 11-year-old boy, was jailed for life.

So, who can you trust?

That is the question many people found themselves asking after the revelations of one of the biggest sex abuse scandals of recent times.

Simon Thomas, 44, was a minister of the United Reformed Church, well known and well respected in the New Forest town of Hythe in Hampshire. He was also a husband and father of four.

Above suspicion, he was what is known as a "responsible adult", someone who is allowed to supervise or look after groups of children.

Used chatrooms

He preached at the United Reformed Church in Hythe for a decade, successfully raising the profile of the church, increasing the number of services, creating links with other faiths and being the inspiration behind the rebuilding of the church, which is presently under way.

But behind the scenes, there was a dark side to his character.

He surfed internet chatrooms to track down his young victims. He groomed them for his sexual gratification, sometimes persuading them to commit acts of indecency on webcams and sometimes persuading them to meet him.

When he met his victims in person, he sexually abused them. In the worst case he raped an 11-year-old boy twice.

The internet gave him the means to pursue the dark side of his life. But it was the computer that ultimately helped convict him.

Judge Jeremy Burford QC said Thomas must serve a minimum of eight years before he is eligible for parole.

Thomas kept detailed records of his contacts, a spreadsheet with the names of those he had contacted around the UK. More than 300 were children.

Yet for years, no one suspected.

Not alone

The 44-year-old was a high profile pillar of the community. Above all, he was trusted by those he worked with, his friends and his family. He was a minister of the church, a respected local figure, husband and father.

Thomas is not alone. But the search for people like him is intensifying.

In Hampshire, the paedophile investigation unit is actively pursuing predatory paedophiles. The police officers involved are doing it by going online themselves.

They pose as children in chatrooms, setting traps. Paedophiles tempted to arrange meetings with them are in for a nasty surprise.

They in turn will find it increasingly difficult to know just who to trust.



I read recently that another church minister in the U.K got a right rollocking for daring to mention that 70% of child rapes are down to his born again brethren.If I can find the link I'll post it. That went down like a lead balloon apparently.
