what's the carb do?

i'm pretty new to toking, and i was just wondering what's the point of the carb on pipes, and how does it work? I've used my buddy's a few times and I can kind of use it, but I'm just curious as to how it works and what are some tips on using it and getting the best hits. instead of pulling the air through the burning weed keeping it lit you pull air from the uncovered carb hole which lets you finish the smoke inside the chamber.

the carb is covered with your finger while the weed is burning. when you release the carb hole, it causes air to flow through the pipe. It's used to "clear" the pipe; that is, when your thumb is covering the carb, smoke builds up within the pipe. When you release the carb, the smoke no longer builds up inside the pipe , because there is air coming in through the carb; all the smoke that has built up inside the pipe is now no longer trapped in the pipe; it goes into your lungs, and happy feelings are produced

the carb allows for fatter hits.

okay that part makes sense now, so will holding the hole longer before i release it when im taking the hit make the hit bigger or change it at all?

Yes, holding the carb longer results in the bowl burning longer, therefore you will get a fatter hit.

But don't hold it too long or you won't have enough lung space left to finish the smoke inside the pipe!

it clears all the smoke out of the pipe. when i first started smoking my friend taught me to hold the carb untill my lungs were about 80% full, then let go of the carb and finish off the hit.

never heard it called a carb ... I call it a rush

But its true purpose is to fuck with the "first timers". You make sure that they payed for the weed and dont tell them about the rush on your bowl (they wont notice). I dont know how many times I have done this but its been alot. Pretty funny when they finnaly figure it out ... then they will pack another one cuz they aint high.

not racist or anything but are u black? many black people i kno dont know how to use a carb on a pipe and end up wastin smoke, imo.
