    Legalise it?

Is it because you think there would be a "fucked up" generation, like Nocturnal Stoner stated? I don't think there would be. I'm pretty sure that in the long-run the usage would stay the same... and yes, there have been studies to determine a possible trend of usage in the future if it were legalized. They all say that the usage might spike for a short period of time, but then decline back to normal, if not lower.

All of you who want it decriminalized: you would rather have cannabis still be in the hands of drug dealers, who could still adulterate it, or sell shitty schwag? Why would you want that? If it was legalized, it would be regulated, and thus there would be quality control.

Many of you might say that it's because it would be taxed. Don't jump to conclusions. Of course it will be taxed, but do you actually think that the price would be higher than it is now? People paying $600 per oz in some parts of the country? You fail to realize that the black market can inflate prices hundreds, if not thousands of times the value of a substance that would otherwise be cheap, even if taxed. Point is, even if it was legalized and taxed heavily, it would still be cheaper than it is now. Not only that, but there wouldn't be a huge regional price difference. Medical Cocaine (yes, it exists) costs $20 per kilo, and this is high quality cocaine. How much does a kilo of high quality cocaine cost on the black market? Do the math. You may argue that cannabis clubs in California charge a shitload of money for their medical bud, but you have to realize that it is not fully legal... it's semi-legal, and the people running it are still risking their freedom.

Decriminalization sucks. The prices would stay the same, which are ridiculous prices at that. There would be no quality control. Cannabis could still be adulterated by assholes. If caught, you'd get a fine and a misdemeanor charge. How is this so much better when compared to full legalization?

Full legalization: The prices would be much lower, even when taxed heavily. There would be quality control, and thus everyone could get very good weed, and there would not be adulterants in the herb. You wouldn't get "caught" for it, thus no fine, and no punishment of any kind. I really don't understand why people would rather have it be decriminalized.

How about legalization with a regulatory system like used with alcohol. How about the freedom to grow this healing herb without being afraid of Big Brother? How about legalization? Come on now, this "decriminalization" concept is bullshit. The real idea behind it is to get it decriminalized first, and then legalized. It's a stepping stone, not a permanent solution.

SMOKEnCHOKE: Oh yeah, that's a real valid reason for decriminalization or keeping it at the status quo. I think you're being sarcastic, but if you aren't, then I feel very sorry for you.

Of course we all want it completely legal - but we've got better chances of it being decriminalised rather than legalised.

Well yes, that is very true. But we're not going to stop at that, are we?

mfqr; My last post was worded to were it didn't make sense so I'm gonna try again.

Decriminalized or legalized either way would do a lot for the cannabis culture. I am amazed at all the 15 year old kids around here who only smoke in front of people to look like a hardass. If you only smoke in front of people you're not a true smoker. If legalized I think it would disassociate all the punks or wannabe gangsta's from cannabis. I don't think they would have interest in it because people would see that normal civilized people smoke it. Maybe it's not like this around your town but that is how it is here.

I think the best way to legalization is to start tearing down the false myths. People state that it is a gateway drug, but it was the last drug that I tried and is now the only one I use. People also, for some unknown reason, think that if you smoke even small amounts it melts your brain and makes you "a useless dumbass." People think they know so much about it and how bad it is before they have even tried it.

I really don't know whether we should legalize it or not because in case u do legalize it, price will go up as our next generation consume more than they can handle and u certainly don't want your surgeon/doctor lighting up a joint right before your surgery.
De-criminalization would be a good start. Not legalization!

Rates of use wouldnt go up - look at the countries that have decrim'd - Holland for example - less hard drugs users and less soft drug users. Also, the price would be alot lower, even with stupid amounts of tax.

I am truly amazed that our governments have not legalized marijuana because it would be a cash cow for them. Unless of course there's more money to be made busting, jailing and fining people. I was thinking how legalization would change our everyday activities. We smoke in the privacy of our homes but it would be cool not to get busted for having a joint hanging out of your pocket. As far as it wouldn't be fun anymore that's f*ing stupid as Lip
said. I for for one would keep chatting and I'm sure there would be more folks to chat with!
What a great pipe dream. I would so thrilled if that were to come true. It would rival the day Richard Nixon resigned. It seems the truth is it has about as much of chance if Bush were to resign. There would be a hell of a party if that were to happen. Chins up you never know.

    Let's consider..

The Counter Culture would fade away. No more 'heros' fighting The Man. No more big profits associated with it so no one would bother to develop it. All that great music, radical politics, the sense of righteous indignation that rises up to fight the Oppression--that would all vanish. Hell, even this board would disappear. People would just loose interest.

Yup, the magical herb would be robbed of all it's glory for sure....and this generation's hippies would become Conservative Religious Republicans just like the baby boomers did.

They say when the gods curse a man they give him the desires of his heart...lol
Get out much?...This is crackhead logic, not pothead logic.:stupid:

    I think not.
Hell, a whole new economy would be born!

Cannabis is NOT the root of great music & radical ideas.
There will always be artistic geniuses & progressive thinkers.
There will always be something to fight for & something to sing about.
