Hello out of Amsterdam
Well I share with friends
Anyways who has ever been to Amsterdam and the Netherlands? And what was your favorite place or city? I myself live in Amsterdam but I am planning to move north where I was born. The country is much different there, much more relaxed. Anyone ever been to Leeuwarden? (the capitol of Fryslân, the viking province)

Hello out of Amsterdam
Hello Wotan, and welcome to the boards.
First, I honestly envy your stash of pot. Secondly, I have never been to Amsterdam but would love to visit one day--if I enjoy my visit enough, I might even move there eventually. Would you have any advice for a person coming from the United States, regarding immigration to The Netherlands?
Lastly, I'd like to say again that I envy your weedit looks like some of the best I have ever seen. Well I hope you enjoy it.
Best wishes.

Hello out of Amsterdam
There are three means for immigration, the first is being a asylum seeker, the second is to marry a Dutch person and the third is a work permit. There are really only two ways for a non-EU citizen to get a work permit:
The first way is to apply directly to companies yourself. You cannot use a recruitment agency because the clients require that all candidates have their paperwork in order. This is because it saves the companies a lot of time as they are looking for people who can begin work immediately. Applying for a work permit may take up to 6 months and companies just do not have the time to do that.
If, however, you do apply to companies on your own and they would like to hire you, then they will start the permit process for you. This is not as easy as it sounds. The company has to prove that it is in their best interest to hire you above all other Dutch and EU candidates. They also have to prove that the job has been advertised for at least six weeks and that they have interviewed Dutch and EU candidates, yet you were the best person for the job.
If you obtain a work permit through a company, please bear in mind that this work permit is bound to the company. If you stop working for that company, the permit will no longer be valid.
The second way of getting a work permit is if you have a Dutch or EU partner. Your partner must be living and working in the Netherlands and be willing to sponsor you. That essentially means that they agree to be financially responsible for you while you are looking for a job or if you happen to lose one. The two of you must prove that you are in a relationship and that you live together. If the relationship should end or one of you should move out, the permit will no longer be valid.
For more information, please take a look at www.workpermit.nl
Also take a look at http://www.undutchables.com
Good luck, you will need it

Hello out of Amsterdam
Thanks for the help! You replied in much more detail than what I was expecting. I will definately utilise these resources.
Do most employers not drug test for marijuana in Holland? I'm confused, since it's technically illegal isn't it?

Hello out of Amsterdam
Its illegal and legal by law, the law works in both ways. Its officially tolerated by law, which allows me to smoke while walking down the street. Therefore employers usely donā??t do drugtest, doing a drug test is actually the same as doing an alcohol test during a test interview: its not even thought off.
I had many job interviews and never had to do any test, people expect you to work in a clear state of mind not being drunk nor stoned.

Hello out of Amsterdam
Thanks assassin.
Like I wrote before: when you go to Holland, try to visit more then just Amsterdam. You havent seen the Netherlands/Holland by visiting Amsterdam. Go a day by train to the south or North (leeuwarden/groningen), or east(utrecht/nijmegen/arnhem...) to see more of the country and find cheaper prices.
