The whole "whose land is it" issue is pretty complicated. But if you go back, waaay back, a whole lot of that area was originally under the control of Semitic tribes. E.g. Jews. They were conquered, they fought back, retook it, lost it again, and on and on. Who is right and who isn't, on the issue of land ownership, really rests on how far back you go in history. But if you go back as far as is humanly possible, Israel is far *smaller* in area than the original areas ruled by Semitic tribes. In a sense, the Jews got ripped off over the millenia, and it seems to me that they don't take too kindly to that kind of treatment anymore. What's different in the last 50 years is that instead of the Jews being tromped on by whoever has the "land claim of the week", they actually have the will and the weapons to successfully resist their enemies now.

Seeing as I was none too pleased with Hezbullah when they blew up a few hundred U.S. Marines, I'm personally glad they're getting their ass handed to them by the Israelis. Makes me think we're getting some decent return on the weapons deals we give Israel. At least they're using the weapons to kill members of an organization that has killed a lot of Americans. Great!
