Digital cameras work great. I used to be a big film camera buff, but my camera equipment burned in house fire last year, so I replaced with a nice, portable 7.1 megapixel Canon PowerShot A620, which I've found is really quite feature-rich and takes stunningly good pics. I considered a mid-to-high-end DSLR, which would be more comparable to what I lost, and I may yet get one, but for now this little A620 is just fine. Really, the only downside to it is the inability to exchange lenses, but as long as I don't need super-telephoto power or fisheye-caliber wide-angle capability, that's not a problem. Oh, and it doesn't save RAW images, which is a mild bummer, but not a major issue.
