How much do you light it?

My friend likes to really fire the stuff up with his lighter. He burns it all really fast, and itâ??s impossible to hold it in; always end up coughing like hell.

When Iâ??m alone smoking, I tend to only light a small part of the bowl at a time, so the smoke is thinner and smoother and I can hold it in longer, and it takes longer to smoke the bowl.

Are there any particular positives or negatives of doing it either way? Is one way going to get you higher than the other?

technically, your friend is wasting weed.

It doesn't really "waste" the weed, but when you burn it that fast and you can't hold it in, not only are you bumming your own trip (cause you're coughing) but the weed continues to burn after you take your hit, so that's wasted weed too.

You have the right idea. Corner the bowl, take in as much as you feel comfortable with. Don't worry about your friend. When he goes broke and can't afford to buy any weed, you'll still be flying. (cause you get high either way, his is just more rapid.)

if you keep the lighter on it actually does burn the weed to nothingness, so light it once(while sucking, duh) and then let go while still sucking, and call your friend a noob for me

I like to use a match and light the entire bowl at once. Then I can take like 2 or 4 big tokes and hold them in for a bit. After that I take another lighter and burn what is left and suck really hard so I burn all of it completely.

Yeah, I used to Marathon all the time, by that I mean that with a group of 5 people you each take a hit and try to hold it in until the joint/bong/whatever makes it your way again.

Then I realized that I didn't get that much more high out of holding the smoke in. Plus it can't be good for your lungs, as the bad shit in the weed has longer to be absorbed by your lungs. I think the cons outweigh the pros for holding your hits.

So now I just take my toke and enjoy it. It is true, there is a science to lighting the bowl just enough. With my nice wood pipe (that fits a gram), I can light it and pass it around and it will stay lit till it's done. Some of my friends don't know that and always light it when they get it... in the process wasting weed.

But, hey me and my friends have enough access to inexpensive (but not cheap quality) herb, but meh. It's too much of a hassle to tell them not to light it. I like to just enjoy the moment.

thats wut i do,i light a little chunk of the bowl,and keep hitting it until the cherry goes completely out,then when it is completely out,i light it back up,but when lit,i dont use the lighter so it wont burn the weed to a crisp and go beat in one hit

i take my bongz in 1 hit, but thatz not ta say i smoke it all quickly. i put the lighter on it(an suck obviously) till a cherry beginz, then i take the lighter off, an let the entire bowl burn slowly. when the cherry iz juss about ta go out i pull it all thru. thatz how yah take a bong in one hit without wastin. coughin aint bummin out yer high, i mean most ppl wood think it must lessen yer high cuz yer lettin all that smoke go early. well when ya cough, yer scratchin yer lungz an throat, that combined wit the air pushin the smoke quickly, will actually make ya higher. anytime ive smoked shit thatz harsh an makez u cough, i get higher then i normally wood even if i had held the entire hit in untill there wuz no smoke left.
