Sadly, I don't believe it is grounds for banishment. Name-calling tends to draw a much swifter response. But it's just a daily occurrence that people address others in that fashion with the F-word when all in the world that is happening is that they disagree with someone else. It's sick-making. And it's only done because of the coward-protecting anonymity of online conversation. If someone addressed a perfect stranger in that fashion in person, he'd likely be struck.
