Weird to catagorize Q and not U as punk. I never thought of them of that style, I guess they have punk roots, but it's just more abstract, and they don't follow conventional time signatures. Still great band, they're legends here in DC.

Maybe, but I find it weird when every band in a genre sounds the same. Or when there are so many sub-genres that they might as well be band names. Q and not U were are Dischord records, played high energy rock, and had something to say. Those are enough punk qualities for me to call them punk.

lol, touche. I guess it does make more sense to call them punk rather than catagorize them with some innovative genre, like calling them post-hardcore math rock. But you make a good point about the endless sub-genres where the bands sound basically the same. (not in all of them, but most!) I believe it's attributed to generic labeling of every band, calling them "indie" without deriving their influences. Everyone wants to be different, but it's not always the case!
