questions about a 1000w hps hortilux

i feel your pain on that electricity bill. I have a measly 250 watt MH light, and i have a small apt....and my bill jumped from 59 measly bucks to 118. I try not to use any other light in the house, but its almost impossible. I dont think there's a way to conserve energy when using these lamps.....unless you tap into someone else's electricity, but thats just looking to get busted. I wonder if the cfl's would use the same amount of energy...

Turn your hot water heater down 10 degrees, make sure you turn off lights that aren't in use, power off your computer when you aren't using it, turn your AC up a couple of degrees if temperature controls aren't an issue. Many things can be done that will add up to HELP offset the cost, but nothing will likely completely offset it.

questions about a 1000w hps hortilux

your 1000 watts is way to big for your space.a 4 by 5 garden space would be great you could keep 15 to 20 plants there and let them grow pretty big keep the light 2 to 3 feet above the top of the plants.an easy way to save money is just to flower with the hps and veg in a window maybe or under cfls.i veged 150ish plants under cfls this season and my bill was never over 65$.currently i flower outside though.i am getting the stuff together to start my indoor garden.i am going sea of green so that i dont have to worry about having alot of lights on all the time maybe you should give that a try.with a 4 by 5 room you could easily fit 70 plants that way.keep it up and good luck.hope i helped:thumbsup:

CFL's are definately power (and money) savers and does just as good as MH's if you ask me.

I would say 5 x 5 would be the best as close as 18" with an air cooled hood. As far as saving money about anything you cut back on in the grow room is most likely going to cut back on yield you just have to chose. I just got $1115 bill yesterday up from $873 last month just the cost of doing business
