You know I never thought about stray cats coming over and eating it, lol. I guess I just don't, which is okay with me and The Kushers, we're always happy to share our green.

I think you just have to keep the catnip plant out of their reach, which isn't easy.

Speaking of out of reach, my neighbor's little orange cat, one I have been attempting to steal away since she doesn't take good care of it, killed a young bird in my back yard this evening. He doesn't even have claws and can't climb trees. I have no idea how he managed to reach that bird.

I don't like the thought of people de-clawing cats, its just not a good thing. It's their defense man, and its wrong. Birdgirl knows what I'm talking about. lol

Jams- I just showed my girlfriend the pictures of your cat and she demanded that I make a post saying how cute she thinks your cat is.

I agree that declawing's not a good thing. That's why I want to steal this cat over to my house. Because my neighbor got him at a shelter and he'd already been declawed before he ended up at the shelter. She brought him home because her grandkids begged her for him, but she herself doesn't like cats at all and just threw him outisde to fend for himself.

My two official kitties still have their claws and don't tear up anything but their rope-covered scratching posts. One of these days I'll get little Orangeman (formerly named Tiger) completely adopted away from my neighbor. He's so sweet, even if he is a bird killer.

I wish I could adopt all the cats in the world. They have so much personality (sp?) and charm, Oh the charm of my Kush. The other day I woke up before I usually would and I looked over at my nightstand to see what time it was. Instead I saw Kush, just sitting there looking at me, and when I looked at him he looked away real quick, ( since I'm always ready for a game with Kush) I close my eyes and look again about 10 seconds later only to find staring at me again, then I made room and called him over and we slept. We were both to tired to play that time.

If declawing were all it did, I wouldn't be so much against it. But the process involves shearing off an actual joint in each of their 'fingers', and I can't do that to them, so all five of our cats all have their claws. I trim them, but that's as far as I'm willing to go.

cracclx, Stockard thanks your girlfriend for the compliment!

birdgirl, here's a bird-eating pic for you. Heh. I went inside to get my camera, and when I got back, Stockard had already caught and devoured most of this bird. All that was left were its wings connected by a hunk of gristle. Hey, his first 7 months of life were on the streets; I'm *glad* he knows how to hunt, else he'd probably not have survived.

    That picture looks eerily familiar!

Today the bird body is moved over to the edge of the yard. I think all that's left is feathers and feet and a head. Last night through the evening when I'd go outside, the cat was continuing to play with it and try and get it to respond, but of course it was fading fast. Finally kitty just finished it off and, I gather, ate what he wanted.

I don't want to touch the remains but would like them out of my yard. I'm afraid they'll blow into the pool. And with the heat we have down here, I know for sure that the decomposition process is going to be rank. Any ideas on how to dispose of what's left???? I don't want to touch it. Heck, I practically want to put on a haz-mat suit just to walk on that side of the yard.
