'Headstuff' - How to be Good at Being Stoned

hmmm sounds like a good book for some new weed smokers that are really afriad of having a "bad trip" or anxiety attack, but i have blazed in situations where it was incredibly heat like the back of a school bus, and still had a good time. I think it varies person to person.

you also have to remember half the people on this site are still kids and cant smoke at home where they have the option of incense, TV, choice of lighting or choice of temperature.

the most valuable info for them would be how to deal with paranoia...just a suggestion

No problem, it's a fair question.

I've been a meditator (at first in a variety of traditions, I'm a Buddhist now) for 24 years, over the last 10 doing a Tibetan form called 'Dzogchen'. I've taught meditation here and there for about 15 years.

I've got a very strong interest in psychology and various aspects of meditation, in particular 'transcendent experiences', or glimpses of enlightenment, especially spontaneous ones. These are more common than you might think, and are more likely to happen to people when they're stoned, hence this book. It's about learning to do the right things to both help you have a good high and to help you begin to explore and promote altered states.

In the real world I write books on (and sometimes perform) mentalism and hypnosis for a living.

I've taken dope for 22 years (for the first few years eating resins). I've explored it and explored with it for all of that time and found it very useful as an aid to meditation of all levels. I've discovered quite a few meditation techniques along the way that're enhanced when you're stoned and that give interesting effects that are worth exploring. I want to share some of these. I found too that certain aspects of meditation helped to keep the high fresh. I'm a quite heavy, daily user (not sure if that's right to be honest, I have no comparison. I do, say 8 to 12 bongs per night over a 7 hour period), and have done for over 12 years. Avoiding developing tolerance to the high is important to me, I want to keep the high as good as I can get it. I really hope that what I've written will help everyone else do the same.

That's covered too. I look at all of the reasons for paranoia and general anxiety and show how to avoid them as much as possible.

I think that because I'm trying not to turn this into one long advert I'm not really describing the book in full. It covers a lot of ground to be honest. I hope I might have described it a bit better in my posting above. The things I was talking about with regard to setting and the high is just one tiny part of it. I have to cover basic things to make it a broad book and help those who are new to dope - but on the whole it's about getting a good high and learning how to seriously explore consciousness, not just having the right incense.

I think mental exploration is a little more complicated than "24.99".

Mental exploration is actually free but I know what you mean. This book is volume 1 and covers many of the basics that any meditator would need to learn in the first three years of practise in say, a Mahayana setting. It also explains some practises from Tantra, and later Atiyoga, and looks at 'View' and its role in the enlightenment experience. I don't think that's a bad start for 24.99

I've practised very seriously as a meditator for a long time, spending 6 years almost entirely alone at one point to concentrate on my studies, But although I learned more and more along the way, it quickly became apparent - and what higher teachings point out - that what's needed to be done to reach realisation, and to explore, is to do less; and that the process is simpler than it seems if you go about it in the right way.

In Chinese traditions they call this understanding that you don't have to spend years traveling the world as a monk to discover that the means to realisation is already within your own mind, the "Monk leaving home with a precious jewel (enlightenment) sown in the hem of his clothes"

The simplest means and auspicious circumstances, not lifetimes, and bookfulls, of searching.

What I've written and will write in volume two I would hope would be a good grounding-to-intermediate level book for anyone wanting to do mental exploration/ meditation. No the be all and end all, of course not when there are books by Leary et al, but I really believe that I've covered a quite extensive area of exploration of the dope high.

This sounds brilliant to me, although unfortunately I'm not sure I'd spend that kind of money on it. It really is a bummer that information like this doesn't come for free. As a general query though, do you ship to Australia, and if so, what would it cost me? Thanks.

    Peace.

I think that most people are going for the PDF at £19.99 rather than the print book, much easier to hide on a disc if necessary. Once the sales site is up and running that'll be a much cheaper option and no postage costs either.
Whereabouts in Oz are you? My family is in Bris'.
