Haunted desert adobe
I love a good ghost story. When it all comes down to it I'm a skeptic but I do actually have one of my own - ganja related as a matter of fact.
When I was a teenager a friend and I drove out to the country in his old hotrod to burn a j. of homegrown. This is what smalltown kids do a lot for amusement, and it was a rare treat because we had been under quite a dry spell.
The homegrown wasn't very good and the buzz was odd-very paranoid and harsh-mostly leaves. I'm sure it was probably pilfered from some country cowpasture garden.
Anyway, I went home later that night and was lying on the bed with the windows open, enjoying the night sky. There was a cool breeze blowing through the window and I was leaning on one arm looking at the moon.
Suddenly something slammed down on the foot of my bed. It kinda startled me, and I expected to look down and see the cat, but he wasn't in the room and the door was closed. I turned on the light and looked around but nothing was there. I went back to bed puzzled and layed there for a while trying to figure out what it was. Maybe a slat had fallen out from under the bed or I had one of those leg jerks? (even though I was wide awake..no, probably not) After a while and no logical conclusion I went to sleep.
I forgot all about it the next day, but later that evening I saw my friend down town and we did the 'hangin' out on the main drag' thing as is customary in smalltown America. Later in the conversation about beer, hotrods, girls n' such, he pops out with 'Man, last night I was lying in bed and someone slammed their hands down on the foot of my bed! I looked up and no one was there!"
My eyes popped out and the Twilight Zone music started playing in my head. I had completely blew off my own incident the night before until he started telling his!
Well, that's my one and only 'ghost story'. I don't even think you could catagorize it as a 'ghost story'. esp? aliens?--it just doesn't seem to fit the mold of any of them. I've went over the details in my mind again and again because, like I said, I'm a skeptic and I like to know the truth-even if the truth robs all the magic out of it. This was my one encounter with 'the inexplicable', and it's not much of a story. But it's the only somewhat supernatural event I've ever experienced that I can't explain and it intrigues me. Somehow I feel it was related to that ugly, paranoid buzz from the homegrown j. It wasn't laced if that's what you're thinking, and the buzz wasn't even very strong. But somehow it seems that 'something' seemed to have come along with it.
