Am I being paranoid?
So some random guy comes to my house and says he wants to sell us windows and somehow persuades my parents that he should take a look around at the windows.
They go around the house and I hear him ask if we have windows in the basement.
After checking each and every rooms windows he says the price for changing the windows is like $5900, which people around here obviously cannot afford.
So my question is, are there people who pretend to want to sell you something like windows for example to get a look around your house to see if you're doing anything illegal? ie. cannabis cultivation.

Don't worry, it was probably just a thief checking out your house.
Never let strangers into your house.

We've had people come in and check our windows before.. We've also gotten people to do out yardwork just because they came to the door and asked us. It might just be some guy trying to get his own business going...
The guy that "inspected our windows" we ended up paying him a few hundred dollars to install this new double french-style back door.. It was pretty cool, he's just like "want some windows?" and we're like "no man, we want a door" (that's the basic gist of what happened)

It's a lot less likely that he was trying to see what you're growing or bust you for that than he was casing the place for a future robbery or possibly trying to scam your parents. You might want to get some window alarms or something, and you also might just want to call the police and tell them about this guy in case he's done that to others or others in the area have been robbed or scammed. Better that than having to call them once you've already been robbed.
I live in Texas, and during the summer down here, people come from different areas of the country and go door to door in some neighborhoods drumming up business, suggesting house work, driveway repairs, chimney repairs, roof work, window replacement, etc., and what they're really doing is trying to scam unsuspecting people--preferably old, vulnerable people--out of money. They talked an elderly friend of my parents into having her driveway resurfaced and went with her to the credit union while she withdrew an astonishingly high amount of money, like $8,000--far too much for the work being suggested. Fortunately, she realized something was fishy and called the police, and they had his picture on camera at the credit union and police were able to catch him and get her money back.
There's a large group of folks who do these summertime scams who live during the winters in North Carolina and South Carolina. They're called "The Walkers," (not because that's their name but because they walk door to door)and there've been several pieces on the news about them. In the post just above, I got the name of that scam group wrong. It's not the Walkers; it's the Travelers, also sometimes known as the Irish Travelers. I looked it up on the net and wanted to correct that. They're the ones who go door-to-door suggesting home repairs in the summertime and trying to scam folks out of money.

a scam? so now im going to be more paranoid..
Maybe I'm a bit safer because this guy said he was Russian so he cant be part of the Irish Travelers. Then perhaps it could be honest dude trying to make a buck.
Well I'll keep my mind open to any possibilities.
