    World Cup Aftermath

Well, as I expected, there was a small bit on the incident on ESPN today following the very controversial attack that happened towards the end of OT. Read for yourself. For me, I believe that's probably some of what happened, as well as a lot more jeering back and forth.

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...373675&cc=5901

'According to several very well informed sources from the world of football, it would seem that the Italian player Marco Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a 'dirty terrorist',' SOS Racism said in a statement. Zidane, the son of Algerian immigrants, was shown a red card after the incident and Italy went on to win on penalties after the match was tied 1-1 following extra time
And how about Materazzi's response. It was professional, but at the same time, I can almost sense his sarcasm. And how's that for class, Italian fans?
'It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means.'
This whole thing is about what I expected to be honest, and the more I thought about it today, Zidane going off like that had to be expected when something like that was said. Think about it. It was his last game, EVER. And also for the world fucking championship, so this game was very emotional for him from the start.

I also hate how this article only adds to the racism in football. FIFA and its partners are trying to overcome racism, but with it still happening on the pitch itself, it's going to be hard to stop a handful of rowdy hooligan fans from throwing bananas at black players. Loyal fans don't hold anything back, and their passion causes them to say and do stupid shit like that. Their has to be a line drawn somewhere though, and FIFA is trying to do just that.

What does anyone else think about this whole thing?

You see on the news what that italian player said to him, something like 'i hope your family dies' when he knew his mum was ill which is why he headbutted him

Well clearly Zidane took it as an insult, and right he should. How can you be so sure Materazzi wouldn't have said that? I, for one, would never put something like that past him. He said that knowing good and well that Zidane is the son of Algerian family. There's absolutely no class on the Italian side, and there's nothing anyone can say to prove otherwise.

On an ESPN radio show this afternoon, they also talked about how earlier on in the game, Materazzi supposedly gave Zidane a "purple nurple". It sounds funny, but fuck those can hurt sometimes. I'm sure Zidane wasn't exactly innocent, but at the same time, a racist remark like that should not be tolerated.

Materazzi flopped when Zidine headbutted him.

With all the flops they do in soccer, you would think it's the NBA.

most likely Materazzi did say that, because they got professionals to see what he said.

He wouldn't of done that to Materazzi for no reason he must of been provoked

Well read that article I posted at the top. "A few very well-informed sources all confirmed what was said." I'd say that about does it for me at this point.

And second off, fucking read what Materazzi said as a response. What a fucking douchebag. First say something ignorant and racist like that, then he doesn't even have the balls to admit what he said? Please.

He should've headbutted him after the game!

His ejection might've not changed the result, but it sure was stupid considering it's the finals!!!!!
