I'd go with ping pong or curling players actually. But hey, tendonitis can be a bitch.

Dude, don't take such a strong point of view based on "what experts believe" was said. They can speculate on their own, but the bottom line is the that the two of them were going at it, not just Materazzi yelling insults at Zidane. No matter what Materazzi said, you can't deny that Zidane reacted childlishly by retaliating with violence. He made an ASS of himself, and he deserves the bad reputation for his actions.

Come on, grow up and don't insult Italians.

I admit I might have come off a little heated there, but things were intense. I'm cool now though, I promise.

And you know what, I actually do believe that a footballer, and not just an Italian one, would stoop as low to give an opponent a "purple nurple". I know this because shit like that goes on in football all the time. I played my first year of college soccer last year, and even at some NAIA league, things I experienced were much worse. My first game, the guy I was guarding stuck his fucking thumb up my ass. Swear to it. He just stuck it right in there when the ref wasn't looking and I was trying to fight for position. Needless to say, I gave up my position momentariy so I could go check for blood somewhere...
But the point is, he won the position by doing that to me. Anything to get that extra step, that extra inch. If you haven't played at a semi-competitive level, then you really can't know only a fraction of the actual shit going on out there. A lot of players get by doing that, it's just part of the game.

I think Zidane should have just channeled his anger into his game. Beating Italy and winning the Worl Cup would have been the ultimate payback for those remarks whstec=ver they may have been. I'm not saying mazeratti or w/e didnt deserve it but in a game of that magnitude self destructing at the last minute is really uacceptable and will be hard for Zidane to live with I'm sure.

players fake injury often!! they do it to gain time and attention, and for the formation to sort itself out. i read a few days ago, that out of like 150 injuries on the pitch only like 60-80 get a post match referral...theyre usually fine...plus not all players are sort. portugese are wimps. germany and ukraine were tough. ballack still played with cramp, and headed the last ball away from argentina. i wish players would play like men, for the good of the game.

As I expected, FIFA is putting the gloves on and gettin' down and dirty to try and figure this one out. I just really want to see what they come up with.

Materazzi is still keeping his mouth shut for the most part, but I think I might too if I said some of the stuff he and others do.
'I used an insult that I've heard used a dozen times and which is heard all the time on the pitch,' Materazzi told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper when asked whether he had insulted Zidane's sister.'I certainly did not call him a terrorist: I'm ignorant, I don't even know exactly what an Islamic terrorist is ... I also certainly didn't say anything about Zidane's mother: for me, a mother is sacrosanct.'I was thinking a little more about this, and maybe Zidane's plans just failed. He could have very well just expected Materazzi to take the hit and not semi-flop, and maybe Zidane could have pullled it off like he just stopped and was turning around and "accidentally" collided with Materazzi. Either way, FIFA is on the case...Materazzi said the incident started when he grabbed Zidane by the shirt.
