also, on a more theoretical note i think that one of the main reasons the "druggies" in school DO become the lower-class is that they are austracized (sp?) into that class by snooty overachievers. they are expected to be drop-outs, losers, life-wasters, so they end up fitting the profile often that they were told they are.

I don't see anything wrong with teaching kids right from wrong. As much as we all love marijuana and other drugs that we feel shouldn't be illegal for whatever reason, they're still illegal. When they grow up, they will make their own decision about the fact. In this day and age, I'm glad they still have DARE around, it's not like when alot of us were kids, we never brought guns to school and crazy things like that. Teaching children that drugs are bad is not a bad thing, what should they be teaching them? That certain ones are ok?

i don't really agree, but i do to a point. a child has so little maturity with which to make decisions. saying "stay away" is easier than giving them a lesson on how to avoid scam dealers, laced shit, meth etc. ........."class in DARE today we're going to learn how to get the most DANK for you DOLLAR" ......

btw: the word "drug" is terrible. what they mean is illegal substances. there are plenty of legal chemicals that can fuck you up, and from a chemistry point of view everything breaks down into molecules, all "drugs" of a sort. this word "drug" simply keeps the stereotype going of putting a group of things into a "bad" box, and others in "good". for crying out loud the world isn't that black and white. but the above poster makes a valid point.

If there ever was a drug that would turn me into a needle fiend, its Morphine.

For that reason, last time i had surgery, I specifically asked for no morphine in recovery.

For me, its so nice its freakin scary for me.

There's a differance between teaching them right from wrong and lying to them to scare them. Drugs are illegal, and no kid should be told to go out and smoke weed (I wish I would have waited untill I was older to start). What gets to me is that these fear tactics don't do anything except breed an assload of idiot drug users who have never been taught the differnce between abuse and responsible use.
It isn't just drugs though... I mean we all grew up being told what they think our minds could handle. For example, I do not know many people that graduated from high school who could honestly tell me anything about General Custer and Little Big Horn, but I think everyone knows the cute story of our first Thanksgiving (which is also an outright lie). I mean there is a reason we have an undereducated apathetic public who believe what Fox News tells them.

yup. if i have kids i would want them to be informed, but certainly it would be a terrible thing to fuck up a young child's development. they're so very susceptible when they're young. i have a friend of mine that spent his entire adolescene on one narcotic after another, including anything he could get his hands on. he spend 3years in juvee and rehab, and now is obviously mentally incapacitated. not retarded, but the drugs have obviously damaged his brain. he is slow, emotionally unstable etc.

i think we can all agree that there are plenty of substances in the world that can hurt you a lot; i think y'all are saying it right with "understanding" the difference between different substances. not just deciding to break the rules one day, uninformed, and OD on something you didn't know anything about.

thats weird i feel exactly like that sometimes, and i do horrible in school,and im told i have a.d.d but the medicene only makes me sick to my stomach. its called strattera its a none stimulate type of a.d.d pill. i think weed helps me with my supposed a.d.d more then the meds the doc prescribes

i'll be honest. i've never smoked weed so i can't rightly comment. i'm 24 and i'm just now considering trying it. i'd just say to you if i may: do what you want. try different things in your life and find something you enjoy doing, hopefully many things. for me the outdoors and rock climbing is huge. for you maybe something else. if you want to give college a try (and heck, it really can help you) maybe try to raise your grades a bit. i heartily reccommend college to you. it's not for everyone and it's far from perfect, but it can help you find out about new things and a degree goes a long way toward oppening possibilities up for you. i hated grades and despised trying to get good ones, but now i'm studying what i love (biology, neurobiology). whatever you do, don't let anyone convince you you're a loser, you're not. and be very careful about what drugs you take. you don't have to give in to everything just cuz you smoke weed. research the actual effects of different drugs, and when in doubt protect yourself and avoid them.

and by all means try community college. i don't know where you live but you generally can transfer to a 4year easily from JC.

but if you don't want that there's nothing wrong with manual labor, self-entrepreneurship, anything like that. just make sure it's what YOU want, not what you let yourself get pushed into
