I would flush with distilled water, then let the soil dry completely, and leave it dry for a coule days before harvest.

Everyone has their own trick that they use.

I personally don't see how the darkness would help, although it has been noted that light degrades THC therefore any fresh resin produced in the last couple days would have no chance to degrade if left in the dark.
