Flaming Lips are most definiately not emo. Same goes for Radiohead. Wilco maybe, but I wouldn't walk into a record store and call them emo or you would get kicked out.

And, if you look at the labels those bands are on, they ARE mainstream

Anyone ever see that show, 'Munchies'? Well, on one episode, they had an emo band. These guys were fuckin' funny as hell. One of 'em says, "You know how most bands have one lead singer? Well, we're ALL lead singers!" Later on, he continued, "We're not musicians. We're an emo band." Lol, from the horse's mouth.

Radiohead and Flaming Lips are a hell of a lot more emotional than any stupid pop-punk band. They're just not so stupid that they have to cut themselves.

The thing I LOVE about all of these arguments, trendyness and outcasts and scenesters and w/e, is becuase it always involves kiddies. Teens. Tweens.
In other words, CHILDREN.
How many 25 year old "emos" do you see running around?
This is why I hated highschool. This is why I became a loner (not be an individual, or any fucking thing) but to escape all this dramatic personal identity crisis bullshit that so many teenagers take so long to get over with. For me, it was around 4 months. 4 months of identity crisis.
I'm never having kids....
