Well, if you're in the U.S., you should be able to file for unemployment. It varies from state to state...I know in NJ that if a company let you go, you can collect immediately. If the company says you did something to get yourself fired (or you quit), then there is a 6 week penalty.

Depending on what bills you have due, you may be able to ask them for a deferred payment. Basically, you skip a payment and they put it at the end...but that really only works with things like cars and homes. For normal day-to-day bills, the best you can do is explain your situation and ask to setup payment arrangements. If you've been a good customer, most companies will understand and work with you.
