Dumb IRC question...

I keep getting a irc chat request from a irc channell called "The Dreamer" on a server from the Netherlands...I dont use irc,it's on my puter cuz my lady put it there so we could chat when she isn't here. I have Skype (I can't type worth a shit) I havent used irc except once or twice in the last 6-8 months. I dont know this channell or any of the people in it...my question is simple,WTF?? how did this person find me and who are they? I check my box daily for Bugs,trojans,spywere,ect(I use AVP and Zonealarm) so... i'm stumped!! anyone??

PS And NO I don't surf "THOSE" websites!!!

Well, you need more info. What IRC client are you using? What server/network are you using? Is it a chat request or a DCC file transfer request?

In general, you don't accept anything that you're unaware of: e-mails, chat requests, instant messages, etc. It sounds like your IRC client is setup to ask for approval before granting requests...that's a good thing. You don't need to surf 'those' sites in order to pick up a worm or virus. Alot of worms are self-propagating...basically, once a friend gets it, the worm sends itself out to whoever your friend might have in their address book or it may send itself to random IPs.

If you can figure out what network that channel is on, you can probably just pop in and lurk the room.

Thanks, as far as what client is on my puter, I have no idea. my lady set IRC up,and Carol is a uber user... her pc is microsoft free,she's into Linux,Hates Bill Gates and any thing he has had his hands on! she is crazy secureity (sp) consious,so when it comes to stuff like IRC I let her set it up for me.(She builds all our computers,sets up the networks,does all the security),as far as chatting goes I use Skype I can't type worth a shit!
