Ok, I have an eye disorder called coats disease; it is not a so

called ??disease,? it is actually a birth-defect that is genetic in nature. The

end result is that in my left eye blood vessels burst and leak across my retina

causing a severe amount of pressure. The pressure of course causes pain

(mainly after my martial science class). My disorder is now advanced and

called ??advanced coats disorder? this is a bummer because I have

become ??photosensitive? and require special glasses that run me around a

    grand.

I had never really tried any kind of substance in my life; I am a criminal

justice major and tend to take classes inhabited by police officers. I look the

part, and oddly enough I wreak the curve. Needless to say I have a lot of

interaction with the people behind the blue curtain.

Recently a family member turned me onto a really good strand when I was

visiting and in massive pain on my left side, and yes the pain subsided.

Now I want to cultivate my own remedy, and yes there is plenty of great

information on this message board, but I live in a very small area; also as a

student I am on a fixed budget. Without a doubt I do not have a extra

closet or room to produce anything of this nature. I tried a shelving system

that I found upon the internet, but that was a bust.

Can anyone throw some good advice my way, believe me I could use the

    help.

    Thank you,

Sorry to hear about your disorder. I too suffer from an eye disorder, but unfortunately it affects both of my eyes. Well, you say you are on a fixed budget, that is somewhat vague. You need to be specific, how much can you put into something like this? Do you live alone? Is super stealth the mane concern you need to worry about?
You can grow about any where if you put your mind to it, I mean I came across a thread for a micro grow club, microgrow meaning extremely small spaces to grow in. Well I found a guy that grew 3 inch plants in a shoe box under some specialized lights. I expect the yield wasn't that good, and he seemed to know his Sh.., but I am just giving you an example of how creative one can be.
Also, I noticed that you have quite a bit of views on your thread, but know replies, it is probably because you are asking questions that are already answered in many ways shapes and forms all over this board. So be more specific.
If you are serious about this you need to start being creative, and smart. Even if you do find a way to get the supplies to grow, always know that security is a big concern.
Start looking at the pictures in the cabinet section to get some ideas. You have people using filing cabinets, dressers, TV stands, rubber made containers and even things like speakers. Allot of this stuff you can find, or pick up very cheep. You can use computer fans which are a few bucks, and most people seem to find them for free. You can get some cheep CFL lights for say a speaker box, and then start growing. You could probably start a small grow for under $100 if you had to buy stuff, remember I mean a very small set up. This can be even cheaper if your a diligent person willing to salvage allot of your stuff.
Well hope that this gets the wheels turning a little bit.

I'm going to assume you mean only to supply yourself, and that you will smoke around one medium-sized joint per day, or perhaps an ounce per month. So you need something that produces around a quarter pound per crop. This you can do with small cabinets (plural), or one larger cabinet. You can make such a cabinet yourself, or you can buy a prefab one from Lowes or Home Depot or Wal-Mart or whatever and modify it/them as needed.

The main things you absolutely have to have:

    1) Seeds (or clones if you know someone who'd give you some).
    2) Cabinet(s) or similar to grow the plants in.
    3) Lights. For your needs, you could get by with CFLs.
    4) Ventilation of some kind. Computer fans are cheap and work for small grows.
    5) Half a dozen small pots, and 2 or 3 larger pots.
    6) Soil and nutrients.

If smell is an issue, look for strains that are low-smell. If it's still too smelly, then things can start getting more complicated, as you may need to add a carbon filter, and if you do that then you will likely also need a fan designed to function with lots of static pressure (e.g. an inline centrifugal fan, EcoPlus, Vortex, whatever). There are ways to build your own carbon filter and save some money, but a good fan, well, that could end up being your most significant cost if the smell becomes an issue (and it probably will).

Thank everyone for your helpful comments, and yes I just wish to supply

myself; this is not because I am selfish or anything, I am really just doing this

because it helps when the medication I get from a Doc tends to make me

feel like a zombie?, I hate that. The creed of the Martial Arts school that I

attend is ??we do things others won??t, so we can do things others can??t.? I

tend to apply this to my life in gen.

Ok on the Q&A session; first, at the moment I have around 200 dollars to

spend (and I??m guessing that is mostly going to light as I looked upon the

web site listed on one of these posts about lighting, I found a MH 450 that I

like but that seems a bit much). Second, what is a ??CFL? light?

I believe that I have a few Ideas and I am working on ways to share these

(no camera) so you can either slap me in the face and call me a fool, or give

    me the thumbs up.

As for a cabinet, does it not need to be 4feet by 2feet? It seems the

majority of instructions are designed for lager amounts that I would not be

    capable of maintaining.

I did actually score a neat vent system. A family member works for an

oxygen company and I was able to acquire a nice ventilator with all the

    filters?, the wheels are turning.

    Much appreciated,

Ok I have an idea/question; I spoke before about a vent unit that I was

lucky enough to lay my hands on. Well, it has a great thick, plastic tube

that has a neat plastic ??tube like? attachment on the end minus the mouth

piece. I saw a movie once about growing and in the film a vent tube was

placed near the roots of the plants. Now; if I plug this into a plastic tub with

lets say a white cut-out top large enough for four female clones, would this

be a good air supply with help from vent fans for the vegetation? Keeping

the temp near 75, (at least) according to my laser thermometer. Nothing

living or organic at the moment, just getting all experimental.

I went ahead and bought a metal shelving utility unit that can be separated

into to smaller cabinets; they are around 3 ½ feet tall, almost 2 feet deep,

and 3 feet in length. Adding walls with pressed particle board and painting

them white (you know they don??t look that bad, I should have though of

these before they would even make a handy entertainment center for my

electronics). I??ll try to keep some kind of posting.

Ok here is another question, about how many watts do I really need. As I have been told more light = more smoke, but remember I??m not looking for that 20 plant plus garden.

Alright this sucks; I went to the devil store known as Wal-Mart (God I hate that place) anyways I ended up in an argument with this guy in the lighting department. This fool wanted me to use a 15 watt grow stick on my ??tomato plants? (lol). According to him if was ??full spectrum,? can I get an INDIANA SUCKS over here. After that I went to a few specialty stores and was told a very surprising story from a clerk that I actually knew from high-school. He explained to me that they used to sell some pretty good lights, he ??remembers? even having a 400 watt MH, but it became too much of a hassle with replacement bulbs; then it gets weird, apparently one day an officer showed up asking about the lighting and he tried to convince the owner to ??give? the officer some of the names of serious buys. Meaning he wanted the names of people that were buying the lights. After that they decided to quit selling them.
To me that is F??d up as being in criminal justice I know that is not how the law works; I hate people who cannot do their jobs, especially officers. Last I checked it was to ??serve and protect? not ??hunt non-violent self-contained brownie points.?
So, I think I will be ordering my lights, or maybe hitting up a few of my friends in KY, TY, and Ohio better to keep much under the radar.

    F the machine!

You did good on the cabinet. Now you need to find out how much light leakage it has. As far as reflective material, Wally Mart has some safety blankets that many people have had success with. They have a reflective material on them and you can place them in your cabnet and they may also help with the light leakage. They are only a few bucks. You can also go with foil using the dul side to reflect the light, the shiney side can make for hot spots.
For lighting, if you go with a 400w you are going to open up a can of worms in regards to heat. I would look into a 250w hps, or an mh/hps conversion set up. For some cheep and also higher end lights I would check out, www.htgsupply.com
As far as the air vent aperattous you have, I don't know much about that.
    hope that this helps some.

Right right; well once I have everything set up, meaning the guts of the

project, I??m thinking of sealing the edges of all leads with these rubber rings

that I found, the rest will have to work out with duct tape. Other than that

I have not precut my leads for even my vents yet so I have zero light

leakage (I used air-conditioner tape to seal the holes in the frame before I

placed any pressed board in position. I also used butterfly bolts to lock them

into place so any side other than the door can be opened if one has to/or

really wants to take the time to, they are of course painted white with about

five coats). The hinged doors are set up with neat left over gun-box locks.

So, as for that I am covered for now.

It does look as if most of my supplies will have to be ordered as I am part of

the anti smoke conspiracy of Indiana (lol at least it seems to be that way),

but I did find some nice worm casting and peat based medium at a nursery, I

haven??t bothered with nutrients yet as I??m going to need to research that a

    bit more.

Still I am not setting anything in stone as I??m not too sure about the lighting

I will be using I want to leave my options open.
