Just try writing more songs. Right now I spend about four hours a day in the studio, not recording, just working on chords progressions and melodies. I then take about two more hours to practice with the band.

I also study other bands songwriting, chord progression(s), lyrics and rhythms. For instance I am looking into alot of hip-hop and dance right now( I am trying to make some danceable songs) even though my influences have nothing to do with those styles, I just want to stay up to date. Its also funny to see how much bands steal from each other, the Coldplay song "Clocks", for example, has the exact same chord progression as Daniel Powter's "Bad Day". And Coldplay??s "Speed of Sound" is just ??Clocks? in a different key.

Western music is simple to write. Yet so few people really try to get into it. Shit just gets easier as you go.
