james420 Reviewed by james420 on . The Book Thread I never see anyone talking about books...maybe my eyes arent open wide enough (too high?...) I just got through reading the Lovely Bones by Alice Seebold and The Pleasure of My Company by Steve Martin. I preferred Pleasure of My Company. It had a sense of humor lacking from pretty much anything he's done in the last 10 years. I dunno...does anyone else enjoy a good book? Any recomondations? Rating: 5

East of Eden, Catcher in the Rye, Les Miserbales, and Slaughter-House 5 are my top three favorite books, but most of the ones already mentioned are either books I've loved or books I'm waiting to read.

"Doors of Perception" is by Aldous Huxley, one of my favs, he was really into drugs and married a girl that lived a block away from me
I'm now reading "The Shining". I always wanted to see the movie but I got the eBook first. After that I'm going to begin in Poe's "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket", sounds wicked too...
Anyway, hahaitsdoogle, if you want free ebooks, check project gutenberg.

I read "The Lovely Bones" a couple years ago too. Pretty sad, and at points hard-going, but a good read. I liked the idea of her heaven smelling of skunk. That was cool.

This list is so cool. It says "I love a bit of darkish, comic fantasy, and adventure. And I also like fluffy rabbits." I bet you love the film Labyrinth.

I'd recommend all the above; KingJustin's list is a lot like mine would have been a few years ago. Good Omens would probably be higher though, like #1 or something.

    How about these:
"The Third Policeman" - Flann O'Brien (this book is SO VERY VERY VERY COOL)
"Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" - Haruki Murakami
    "Albert Angelo" & "Christie Malry's Own Double Entry" - B. S. Johnson
    "Layer Cake" - J. J. Connolly
"His Dark Materials" trilogy - Philip Pullman
    "The Trial" - Franz Kafka
