    CFL Pros please

Hello all, I am going to purchase 125 watt CFL growlight. I know they need a mogul socket, my question is there anyone who can tell me if I need to do wiring? or can I by a socket with the plugin cord on it?. What are my options because I priced a hydrofarm 125 watt kit (has the relfector and the socket with it) and it was $199.99, also the girl told me the bulb didn't come with it . I think she was full of shit but anyway if you can help me out that would be great.

    Thanks

my home depot has 150 & 200 (5.5k lumens)watt cfls, they go in mercury mogul bases, if that is what you are looking at, I would go with the smaller ones (like 26w like repherz says) or 85w (still use standard lightbulb size mogul base). from my experience the larger ones require a 175w mercury ballast (they are meant to replace the 175w MV) and (obviously), not cost effective, stick to the 26w-85w range, otherwise just buy a HID light.

hmm, so the base is bigger than a normal lightbulb socket? it looks like what I was talking about, if it has a bigger base (mogul base is fancy name for screw-mount, they come in 3-4 sizes; just to make sure we're on the same page here.), it usually requires something "special" is what I'm saying, I know the 85w screw in CFLs work well and they're only $8-9 bux/per at homo depot. the larger screw-in ones (look just like the product you showed me) go in mercury vapor fixtures and were like 25-30 bux/per. I'm high and am over-thinking here...... toke..... toke.... buy it, if it don't fit, return it.

you can buy just an adapter to fit a regular socket or buy the mogul socket and wire it yourself...its not hard...or just buy a reflector already wired hydrofarm makes one for cfl's...and the light your buying is self ballasted so disregard the mercury ballast info
