Cloning with Rockwool?
Hey All. If anyone can help, i'd be so greatful.
I want to attempt to clone my plant. i really don't want to mess up, so i've been doing some research. From all the different methods, rockwool seemed easiest to understand.
I am pretty much clear on what to do from the point where you dip the cutting into the rooting solution & place in medium (rockwool cubes), plus the steps that follow, (i.e., light, water, humidity, etc.).
I'm just confused about the preparation. I know I soak the rockwool cubes for 24 hrs in pH balanced water, but where does the cloning solution come in? Also, are you not supposed to soak the cuttings before hand, and for how long?
thanks in advance!GREENvision Reviewed by GREENvision on . Cloning with Rockwool? Hey All. If anyone can help, i'd be so greatful. Cloning with Rockwool?
Cloning solution? Vets... correct me if im incorrect but, there is no "cloning solution" maybe you mean the rooting hormone. Also i know that when you soak your rockwool cubes, you are supposed to shake them out really good... right?

Cloning with Rockwool?
If you want to use Rockwool then you are correct. You soak it for 24 hours in distilled Ph water at 5.2 -5.5. After it soaks you take your cutting and dip the whole thing in Anti-wilt, then you dip it in the rooting hormone. After that you place it in the Rockwool and gently push it in.
There is an FAQ that shows taking cuttings and rooting in an aero cloner but cutting, soaking and dipping is the same.
They root best under cool white fluorescents 24 hours a day. With anit-wilt you do not need to use a humidity dome. The Anti-Wilt will keep them from drying out and give them a better chance to make it until they can root. You can use a humidity dome in place of Anti-wilt but you may not have as good of results as if you did.
Jiffy peat moss pellets are very easy to use too.
Keep the Rockwool moist and use Ph adjusted 5.5 distilled water.

Cloning with Rockwool?
okay, now i'm even more confused. i purchased a rooting hormone "Hormex" rooting powder. but i also bought "Olivia's Cloning Solution". it says on the directions (short version):
mix 6 oz. w/gallon water and water medium daily with solution.
i assumed that that this was the stuff that adjusted the ph in the water?

Can't say I use that cloning solution but I do know about it. Then just do everything as suggested and give your solution a try. If you don't want to use Anti-wilt then don't but you will need a humidity dome.

Hey GREEN...
dip your cuttings into the olivas cloning solution... there should be no need to make any soultion,, you just dip the stem into the OLIVAS bottle...
and then stick it in your ROCKWOOL...
Like ZANDOR mentioned, wilt spray is GOD SEND.. and will make your cloning experience.. wonderful!!!!!!
