how much is that thermometer?

a temperature of 86 is ok at the top of the canopy where direct light is hitting the thermometer... as long as there is adequate air flow (ideally blowing up towards the light through the canopy)...

Often the temperature below the canopy (at soil level) will be 10 degrees cooler...
