I've recently used a laser temperature reader (glorified thermometer, but awfully awfully precise, handy, and fast) to determine where my grow space is hot, and where its cool. Less than 2'' above the optimal temp of 76-78, the temp jumps up to 86 °F. I'll be countering that with this handy little gadget as soon as the holiday weekend is done.

While I was at it, I went ahead and pointed the laser at any and everything in the grow area.

The 600 watt Galaxy electronic ballast's temperature is consistent at 110 °F on all 6 sides.

The light discharge of the AgroRedSun Lamp, a whomping 335 °F , but the back, or, the reflector side...a cool (comparitively) 95 °F.

Every CFL ballast I took a reading of, regardless of wattage or lumens, 120 °F.

I hope that helps someone! :smokin:
