Multiple Questions. I've Just No Clue Anymore

I guess I could get a book, but right now I'm in the midst of confusion and in the midst of a grow which seems to be taking forever. It's likely I'll quit after this.

I have 4 plants (unfortunately more than I wanted). DWC/bubbles. 5g pots with 6 or 8" net pots. 1 plant is 7 feet tall, 1 is 2.5-3, 2 are about 4'. (sigh)... I had all 4 on a 400 hps but bought a used 600. Yesterday, I put the sequoia on the 400 and the other 3 on the 600. The 400 is a hortilux, the 600 is a 3 month used Sylvania Lumalux which is straight in shape (not flared in center) and I can't find much info on this bulb to tell me if I should upgrade.

I've had root root issues that I thought I fixed via disinfecting everything, separating the buckets, more air, and peroxide. Some of the roots are dark colored and I've no clue if it's rot or just discoloration. They are hanging in there. In the 4th week of flower.

    I have various questions...

    1. Anyone familiar with this Sylvania Lumalux Super 600 hps bulb? And - Since I don't need these bulbs for veg - should I 'avoid' the hortilux which seems to have less lumens? Isn't it better to have the most lumens I can get? Do I need the blue spectrum for flower? And I'm worried the 600 might be a crappy bulb.

    2. I use GH 3-part. My PPM is 1200. PH around 5.8. I have Overdrive and BigBud on hand. I'm afraid to use it. BigBud says to add 5ml per liter and it'll raise the ppm by 300. I assume 300ppm per liter? I have 3 gallons of water in my buckets. That's 11.36 liters. I'm confused as to how much I should add, if I should add it in the first place, or how much it would raise my ppm. I'm afraid.

    3. Does peroxide slow growth or affect nutrient uptake in any way? Affect ph?

    thx

    4. Would root discoloration be caused by light to the roots? My white buckets 'might' be thin enough that light seeps through. I'm going to wrap them today.

1- Lumalux's are decent bulbs. If it is 3months used then I think its fine to finish up this grow w/. IMO it is best to have RED spectrum for flower.

Big bud is great. I dont use the 5 ml per liter. More like 2 due to high ppms.

Peroxide should not slow growth if it is added propperly and it has never raised my ph.

Run a cleaning solution through your system during flush (takes away that black nutrient build up) Clearex and Floura Kleen are good.

    ROOTS HATE LIGHT!

So at 2ml/liter for 3 gal water = 22ml Big Bud. Sounds like alot. But if they are saying 5ml/liter will increase ppm by 300 - then even at 2ml/liter, wouldn't I be upping my existing ppm by 1600 or so? In what way am I being stupid right now?

What bulb would you recommend strictly for flowering? I'm concerned that the hortilux has blue and I don't need that for flower? From what I'm reading the blue is for veg growth and that's the last thing I want. Right? Plus the Hortilux has far less lumens and I would think that's a bad thing. AND... The 600 seems more white than my 430 hortilux. Makes me worry. I'm fine with buying a new 600 bulb if it'll make this nightmare grow end sooner?

I have no idea why these plants are so tall and am concerned I did something wrong. Seriously.... 7+ feet? It's spindly also.

BTW - I put the plants under the 430 Hortilux when they were 1-1.5 feet tall. That means the big one stretched 5.5-6 feet!

2 ml per lt does look like alot. I use Calmag during veg and 2 wks in flower then switch to BB.

If you have a hortilux bulb USE THAT! lol Thats the best bulb there is IMO.

You probably vegged too long or have a sativa dom. strain.

Snoop - No... I have a 430 Hortilux bulb for my 400 but I just bought a used 600 system that has a 3 month used Sylvania 600 bulb in it. Thinking I should get a better quality bulb. But I still question the need for a hortilux when I'm reading it's good for veg growth.

I vegged them (at the end) with a 400 MH conversion bulb. Moved them to 12/12 whilst short. They went nuts after putting them in 12/12.

dude...Use the bulb you have:thumbsup: ...don't worry about it...enjoy your grow and don't worry so much ...All you can do now is Wait, harvest, dry...Smoke!:smokin:
you can flower with blue or yellow...Although most always recommend 1000w/hortilux/hps...Hortilux blue is a MH BadASS Lamp and alot of growers(those who can afford it) rant about it.
    It cost 200 bucks!!!
I have both hps and MH and the MH actually create denser buds than the hps.

Yes, It is generally preferred to have MH/blue, for veg and hps/red-yellow for flower, BUT! Having both red/blue spectrum together is even better. In fact when you look at the spectrum of a Hortilux Blue 1000w MH. It blows all other competitors spectrum graphs away. Period.

I have 2 1000wMH with Agrosun Gold enhanced red spectrum lamps to balance the whole spectrum and give me that combination spectrum I mentioned to you above.

There are so many nice bulbs coming out Now, It is becoming a grower's nightmare...to pick out the best one.

OH...In my 1000w hps, I use Hortilux. Use both your lamps for bigger yield, until you have to remove 400 for veg.
I veg in 2 seperate rooms...I have a 250hps/Master SonT, and a 400 w/Sunmaster MH(same as Agrosun Gold...Made by same co.) hope this helps. latewood

p.s. I always say...Even though Hortilux omits higher lumens...When you start Adding 1000w lamps , whatever kind, whether it be hps or MH; And add another , then another ...you are adding a 1000watts a 'POP'! Don't forget that...peace

Get some hygrozyme to add to your rez...You can use h2o2, if you want, as long as you are using 3-part chem nutes:thumbsup: ...I think I used to add 3 tablespoon, to my 10 gallon rez...so a tablespoon apiece for each of your buckets, should work. Add the bigbud as per instructions, you add...1200ppm.s aint chitman; LOL for a tree!!!
    :smokin:

they say 2ml per liter...that is per liter of your 3gallons per bucket...instead add 5ml per gallon...15ml per 3 gallons...get it

I would back the nutes down to less the 1000 ppm, then i would SCROG because i hate tall plants. Read about it and i bet you will try growing again.

    It is so nice.

Late - re; the bulbs.... When I do a quick glance of 1000 hps bulbs, it seems the Hortilux has a goodly amount of lumens in comparison. It's right up there or surpasses some others. Same with the 400. But it seems with the 600, the Hortilux lumens are very much on the low side. 85k vs. 92-95k.

Should I ignore the fact that the Hortilux has lower lumens because it brings other things to the table? My thinking was the more lumens, the better. Is my theory wrong? Seems the 600 is an oddball situation.

Big Bud & PPM - I'm still confused. If my current PPM is 1200, adding 15ml of BB will raise my PPM by 900. My total PPM will be 2100. Isn't that bad? Shouldn't I lower my current PPM to around 300-600 before adding the BB?
