Hahaha! You know the truth! LOL...Most people seem to think China is so "exotic", but they destroyed most the exotic-looking buildings and such a long time ago...LOL. That Wal-Mart picture sums it up quite nice, Fengzi...:smokin:

I usually eat at home because my girlfriend cooks for me...very good and very cheap...And you can, of course, find some really tasty and inexpensive restaurants everywhere. I don't know how you could stand living in Shanghai though...I detest Beijing and Shanghai...I live further North in a less global city.

I used to live in Binzhou, Shandong...do a google search on that one...LOL :stoned:

Yeah, all I could get was hash too. We used to get it from the Xinjiangren that would hang out on the riverfront offering to change money. Never good quality but it did the trick.

I loved living in Shanghai but that was 10 years ago. It's such a totally different place now. My wife and I had a little tiny, about 30m square, apartment in the Nothern part of the city. I'm sure I was the only Westerner in the entire neighborhood and most folks seemed to consider me some exotic pet of my wife's. We also had to pay off the local cop with a carton of cigarettes every few weeks since, as a foriegner, I wasn't really supposed to be living there. Ah...the good ol' days.

We never ate at MCD's or KFC either. My wife hated the food there and it was so much cheaper to just get what we needed at the outdoor market behind our appartment building. If we did eat out it was in one of the local places. We had a great Sichuan place right around the corner and there were lots of little hole in the wall la mien places close by.

So what are you doing in China anyway? I first went to study, then wound up teaching English, and then just bummed around for a while. Now I go back once a year or so to visit the in-laws or for business (my company has an office in Shanghai).

I actually might be heading to Beijing in August. My wife has to go for business and I'm thinking of tagging along. If so, I'll drop you a line.
