I was reading up on hydroton {clay} pellets yesterday in I think MAximum Yield and there was a reference to the clay having an affinity for toxic salts, binding them OUT of the soil.

Knowm, does this apply to clay pots as well?

My only complaint about clay pots is they don't come in a shape that suits my needs. I prefer a relatively deep, square, pot or bucket, with a handle for the larger size.

3-gallon sour cream tubs from a TexMex place get my thumbs up.

Just be sure to drill holes in the SIDES too because the bottom isn't designed to drain right obviously.
