I think you did the right thing in everything.

You taught him an important lesson about getting ripped off, and you probably stopped him from smoking for a little while. Now, I could go into what age I think is right for someone to start smoking, but then we'd probably just be going around in circles here. So I will say, that the final gesture you should make on this manner, is buying him a fat sack on whatever age you think is best. That way, you didn't really "rip him off", just made him wait, which is smart.

For future reference, though, make sure any bottles he hands you of anything are unopened. Remember, he's been fooled before, and nobody likes realizing what they're drinking tastes like, and probably is, draino.
