    What is this?? (pics included!)

    Hey Aaron : )

Your plants look very good.. It looks like your new growth is vigorous and healthy... this is very important and always a good sign.. NEW GROWTH is the most important element when assesing a plants health..

That being said, you have a problem... some sort of MG or K problem..

    You need to
drain your reservoir and refill it..
    Stop using the espson salts...
Set your PH correctly.... which should be around 5.8
Add new nutrients... make sure you mix the nutrients individualy into the reservoir.. mixing the nutrients directly together and then adding them to the reservoir IS A NO NO... this can/will cause a nutrient LOCK to occur

Tell me about your roots.. they are sitting in water? in the reservoir?
What color are the roots? Do you have air stones in your reservoir?

The plants are 3.5 weeks old and they just stuck roots down into the res of this drip system and now they are turning brown from the bottom up. They went full strength dyna grow nutes a few days ago... ppms and ph ok. what the hell is going on?? I am doing everything perfect. I have read all the defeciency and problem FAQs but I have seen nothing like this. Please help me! All temps are controlled, 78 in the day, 68 in the night.. pinch of Rating: 5

aaron, i think you can run the drippers 24/7 (or at least whenever the lights are on) with better results... It is nearly impossible to over water using hydroton clay pellets...

if you are running the drippers continuously you will get much better WATER MOVEMENT.. which equates to MORE OXYGEN in the reservoir... whcih means more oxygen for your roots...

    Ok I just...

drain your reservoir and refill it..

with flora nutes, no epsom salts, cal mag, diamond nectar, a couple drops of superthrive, and love.. lots and lots of love..

    Stop using the espson salts...

    check

Set your PH correctly.... which should be around 5.8

its between 5.5 and 6.0 best i can tell on the color scale

Add new nutrients... make sure you mix the nutrients individualy into the reservoir.. mixing the nutrients directly together and then adding them to the reservoir IS A NO NO... this can/will cause a nutrient LOCK to occur

I just learned this! and the part about mixing micro before bloom and grow..

Tell me about your roots.. they are sitting in water?

    YES

    in the reservoir?

    YES

    What color are the roots?

    Bleach white

Do you have air stones in your reservoir?

    YES

if you are running the drippers continuously you will get much better WATER MOVEMENT.. which equates to MORE OXYGEN in the reservoir... whcih means more oxygen for your roots...

I will monitor for nute shock and the response to these new nutrients and as long as all goes well I will bump the drip cycle up to continuous over a couple of days..

I also replaced my pump incase it was eating the iron up.

FINGERS ARE CROSSED!!! Thanks for help GK!!

ther fine. GK is on the money...You were not watering them enough and the roots were drying. I run my similar homemade drip system lights on+drip 1 hour on/off for 15 minutes, all during lights on. when lights are off, I drip 15minuteson/off 1 hour...good luck.

p.s. run your nutes without grow...after veg.
use the 5ml per gallon value of calmag+
diamond nectar...I don;t use, so follow bottle directions toward the lighter side...and buy some hygrozyme or sensizyme to replace the epsom salts...although I have no problem with epsom salts. I love Hygrozyme.

you got a good start. peace

You missed one. Do you have adequate oxygenation in that rez? I.E. Do you have an airstone in there bubbling.

You should, especially if you are not dripping constantly.

I thought of 1 more thing...You have 6 plants in that on unit? What are you going to do with the males? You know the more they grow...the rootball will intertwine with each other, and you won't be able to get them
apart. I never put more than 2 plants/clones or 1 plant/seed in that size rez
    peace

    thanks yall..

There are only 3 of our favorite plants in that setup.. the other three are not MJ and wont be in it much longer due to size constraints..

Im going to kill male plants if necessary.. I didnt know the roots would get so bad but I guess just three plants will be ok... Im going to do the clone for sexing thing and get um all sexed up here in a week or so.. then there may be less than three plants in there /

I do have an airstone in the res..

This morning the girls were looking good.. will up the drip cycles today.. (now)

I think diamond nectar and hygrozyme are similar but i am using sparingly as its some pricey stuff.. like calmag.. i didnt know i would be pumping so much out of that bottle every res changeout but oh well.. gotta keep the kids happy.

I will up the drip settings and post pics in a few hours (after the dark cycle).

well i cant really tell what direction its going.. looks like the affected leafs are eventually going to die.. i will wait till they get a little worse and the plants get a little bigger before I remove them..

I guess it would be a bad idea to clone plants with this kind of stress.. I guess I should wait till the condition clears up?? totally?? or mostly??

oh and the drippers are running about 50% of the time now.. I can tell the plants are a little shocked so I will wait untill they recover before I up the cycles more.

Ok here are pics 36 hours after the res changeout from dyna grow to GH Flora nutes...

I can see that the problem leafs are getting some of their color back.. new growth looks good but there appears to be some burning at the leaf tips.. but its pretty mild so I dont think I want to adjust anything.. It is also possible that that is from the old nutes.. I might cut back on the drip cycles a little.. its at about 50% on now but it was only on 30min at a time, 5 times a day.. may need a more gradual increase..

so I dunno if I am out of the woods yet.. def not going to order an aeroponics setup any time soon

I think I will flower with ebb and flow.. tried and true.. nice and reliable.. and about as idiot proof as hydroponics gets..

Do these guys look ready to be cloned? Would it be any issue to change them from DWC right over into a hydroton mix with drip (i.e. minus the roots in water)? This would be my mother plant setup.. I'd like to move this little bin into my exposed garden with the rest of the veggies.. a.k.a. the "cover story" garden.. and let me tell you how uninterested people are in me growing broccoli and bell peppers.. I could put a room full of people to sleep talking about nutrient defficiencies.. hahaha..

I have a fish tank and a paintball gun and some veggies growing hydroponically.. along with a million other hobbies.. so accedently leaving a bottle of GH bloom on the counter isnt a give away.. and that tank of CO2 is for filling up my paintball gun tanks.. and all that RO water is for the fish tank.. everything in clandestine harmony and I get a bonus out of the deal that nobody knows about but me and you guys..

GK.. Im going to order your videos.. just trying to figure out how to send payment incogneto.. i think "seemorebuds" on my already loaded with hydro gear paypal account wouldnt be so bright Im sending in the $25 for my membership on this site so I should be able to PM soon..

your mother plant must be at least 4-5 weeks old in order to take clones
