How long seeds will keep for?

After doing more and more reading here I'm beginning to think that I'm going to be planting too late in the season. I live in South Central California and we do have a long growing season. It stays warm until the end of October normally. I'll be planting outside in 5 gallon containers. Yes, i can move them around to get the required amount of sunlight for veg and then for flowering. But, I'm thinking there may not be time for a decent harvest.

Here is what I ordered: Papaya form BuyDutchSeeds. It's an indica, low growing with a faster growth period from what I gathered before ordering.

Now, if I decide to not plant (the seeds aren't in yet and it could be a couple more weeks before they get here), how long will the seeds keep for? I'm assuming I should treat them like I do my other herb seeds I plant and keep them in a dark, enclosed, cool environment. But I wanted to get the opinions of others on how long seeds will keep for in the proper environment.

    Thanks!

Kept in good conditions the seeds can keep for quite a long time. Yes the number of sucessful germs will proboly go down a bit but if you have a bunch of seeds no worries. Also if they are kept in a good enviroment it has alot to do with it. I am germin my seeds which are a about a year old tomarrow and am seeing no problems.

The butter storage part of a fridge is a good place to store them. They will keep there for many years. A few grains of long grain raw rice will help to keep the moisture away too.
