Cool Tube Probs
ok well i made my first cool tube (400 watt hps) and it looks pretty good and it works pretty well but the temps in my grow room are going 90+. the cooltube is connected to a hard 4 in duct connected to a 250 cfm in duct fan and then a soft duct that goes out of my cab. same set up for the intake except the soft duct is the intake and the hard duct is the outtake. i also have a fart fan pointing at my balast to try to keep that cool. I also have my bubble cloner in that cab keeping the humidity up. i have no idea why the fuck its so dam hot in there. the temp with the door open is runnin pretty steady at 84 but i cant get it to go any lower. can anyone help me get some new ideas for ventilation???

You have the transformer in the same area as your light and plants?
Are you pulling in cool air to blow through the tube and out the otherside of your grow area with no breaks inbetween?
Are you also using an active exhaust to pull the air out and away of your grow area?
What about fresh air intake for your plants is that passive or active?

What the hell is a transformer??? you mean the actual fan??? if so then yes it is.
Are you pulling in cool air to blow through the tube and out the otherside of your grow area with no breaks inbetween?
I am pulling in cool air but its not connected to the other side of the cool tube but its very close.
Are you also using an active exhaust to pull the air out and away of your grow area? Active exhaust??? like a second fan to carry the heat away further??? if so then no but i could
What about fresh air intake for your plants is that passive or active? i have a fart fan inside the room that keeps everything moving arround but no the air is not fresh.
i plan on putting a hole through the wall and putting a grate in and then putting the fart fan next to the grate so there will be more intake of cold air.
thanks for the quick reply z

I think zandor means by saying transformer, the ballast and capacitors for the lamp (really could be called a transformer), moving those guts outside your room will drastically change the temps. I did it with my 3 ballast sets and dropped the room temp by 15deg f.

If you have a digital ballast, it's not such a big issue, as they don't generate a whole ton of heat. If you're not using a digital ballast, then get your ballast out of your room/cabinet and you will definitely see a temperature difference.

If you want to keep it cool then you need one blower attached outside your grow area and use the silver flexible dryer vent to connect it to one side of your cool tube and then use a second dryer vent pipe to take the air out of the cool tube and out of your grow area. Not close but it needs to be attached so all the air goes through the cool tube and out the other side and away from your grow.
Nice start dude happy growing
The plants do need fresh air from time to time. Passive air intake with a fart fan running all the time is ok for a small grow.

well the temps in my room with the door closed is still 88-93 and that is not what i want... id like to have a consistant temp of about 82 give or take 2 degrees or so. i plan on putting a passive vent into the side of the cabinet with a fart fan but will it be enough for the temps to get that low??? also annother thing that occured to me is that the intake for the cool tube is actually pretty close to the outtake for the cool tube... theyre about a foot or 2 apart. im pretty shure this is why its so dam hot in there but theres not really much of an option... just to remind you the fans i have are 250 cfm's and my box is like 3x5x3. there are 2 of these fans connected to the cool tube. is this even enough air being moved for this method to work or do i need more??? and would adding annother intake, other than the passive one i plan on putting in, and pointing that straight at the cool tube help significantly enough for it to be worth it? thanks for all your help so far.

Intake should be as close to the floor as possible, exhaust as close to the ceiling as possible. Sounds like your intake and exhaust are too close together, which may result in you sucking in the hot air you've just exhausted. If you can't change your configuration and separate the intake and exhaust, you're likely to be waging a constant battle against heat. Is this a closet? If so, you could try the cabinet concept. I find cabinets have a lot to offer, foremost being the fact that you can saw and hack on them all you want and nobody cares, because it's your cabinet.
Also, the ambient temperature of the room containing your cabinet (or closet) is *extremely* important. I keep my window AC unit set on 68 degrees F, and this cool air is what comes in the intake. If the ambient temperature of your room is 85 degrees or whatever, then you won't ever get it much less than that inside whatever you grow your plants in, no matter what else you do.

Where is your thermometer?
Have you moved it around your grow area to make sure you have an accruate reading?
