Heading to our 1st Harvest. Advice needed
Hi all,
Poohcat's hubby here.
I wanted to thank all in the community for all the help with our first grow. We made numerous mistakes along the way ( over vegging, MG ferts, stretching to the max). We battled fungal gnats and pussycats. Your help and the wonders of this weed still got us two lovely ladies with some nice buds (see attached picts).
We will be taking an extended vacation starting 7/15. As a result we will need to harvest our two ladies on 7/14. Below is the schedule we have been following and will use as the harvest date approaches.
If we are missing anything or something is not right, please let us know and we can make the neccessary adjustments now.
Mid Feburary planting, 5/5 started our 12/12 light cycle.
6/14: watered each plant with 1/2 gallon filtered water with nutes
6/18: watered each plant with 1/2 gallon filtered water
6/22: will water each plant with 1/2 gallon filtered water
6/26: will water each plant with 1/2 gallon filtered water
6/30: will water each plant with 1 gallon filtered water (start of flushing)
7/4: celebrate the birth of our nation and water each plant with 1 gallon of filtered water
7/7: cut fan leaves from both plants
7/8: water each plant with 1 gallon of filtered water
7/12: water each plant with 1 gallon of filtered water.
Turn out the lights, the party is almost over (48 hours of darkness before harvest)
7/14: cut both plants at the main stem, hang in the closet to begin drying phase
7/15: begin enjoying our 10 day vacation ( also keeps us from the temptation of trying to test the buds  )
7/24: return rested and refershed from vacation and check on drying. If good trim and place our buds in airtight glass jars and start curing.
If all goes well we are looking forward to our second grow to begin in late August or early September (BTW: is the Xmas grow project still on, we want to be a part of it)
Again, thanks to all and please provide input if we are off target on any of the steps needed for harvestPoohcat21 Reviewed by Poohcat21 on . Heading to our 1st Harvest. Your plan sounds good. At least youve done your hw. Im no expert but the only thing that you might not want do is cut the fan leaves. In my grows I dont ever cut fan leaves, some do but I dont. There is a better explanation on a couple of other threads, one currently is advanced techniques I think, but basically the fan leaves store nutes and if you cut them off before you harvest you could be cutting into your harvest. It is easier for the plant to use nutes that are stored in the leaves rather than draw them up from the roots, kinda like rest stops to the buds lol. When the plant is done using them they will naturally fall off. But do what you think is best because obviously your two ladies ar looking wonderful. Best of luck -Diz :rasta:

I don't whack the fan leaves either, for the same reason: the plants use them as nutrient repositories right up until the day of harvest, so it is at least my belief that leaving them alone as much as possible until the very end increases bud mass. Your mileage may vary, and if you do tend to whack your fan leaves early, and it works out okay for you, well then, that's really what matters.
The 48 hours of darkness before harvest - I believe that's a myth, that it does anything particularly beneficial (although like most stuff, there are people who swear by it). I've harvested right after 12 hours of light, right after 12 hours of dark, and after 2 days of dark, and it's all been the same for me, couldn't tell a lick of difference. Not trying to dissuade you from doing that; that's totally your call. But in my experience, it does nothing beneficial (but nothing harmful either). Could also be that the strains I grow (White Rhino and AK-48) just don't benefit from that, I dunno.
Otherwise, looks like a solid plan to me!
