Too much water?

The past couple days here it has POURED rain. And I got a couple outdoor plants that I am growing. And each time it has poured rain I have either been at work or asleep as it rained last night and they took on the rain straight up. Even hail 2 days ago.

And I always hear to not over-water. But what are the consequences? They do have holes on the bottom of their buckets so it cant be that bad, but what can I look for in 'Overwatering'

let nature do it's thing, as long as your soil has good drainage you'll be fine, they just got flushed with water, so make sure they dry out before you give any more water.

It is a lot more difficult to over water in big buckets that are outside, then any inside growing. SO that is definitley in your favor.


When a plant is over watered it will become droppy and heavy looking. the leaves will loose their crispness and become more like cloth as oppsed to crisp paper....

I dont think it's possible for your plants to be overwatered by rain or water outside if it's growing in the ground (maybe if it were in a pot). The roots will suck up how much it needs and the rest will just run down. An extended period of moisture to the roots might be drastic though.

Same thing happened to me but my little plants did fine.

well heres one danger of lots of rain, if you got buds and the plants are constantly soaked u also got mold. if your roots are wet for an extended perod of time the plant will suffocate and die. so hope for sunshine

i was wondering about this to, due to the fact i water three times a day....(small amounts less then 2 oounces of water per plant). this is becuase there in a 3 foot tall by 3 foot wide planter with a huge tree in the middle. the plants are on the outsides of the pot so they get some shade from the HOT ASS TEXAS SUN..
Its a 100 degrees everyday with direct sunlight from about 8am till 9pm

my question really is how much water should a 6inch sproutling get? on a daily basis?

3 times a day.. hmmm..

you know, maybe that was necessary for a young plant in 100 degree heat.. I will assume that the roots were not very deep and the summer heat was drying the top several inches of your soil very very quickly...

that being said.. it is always better to water a lot.. a complete saturation of your soil...

as opposed to watering less quanity but more frequency... (not correct)

IF you stick your finger in the soil and the top 3-6 inches are dry (for a vegging plant; 4+ nodes) then you are probably safe to water...

usually you can lift your container and feel that it is light.. but that sounds impossible in your situation... LOL

If you have a 6 inch "sproutling" (nice word) and it is indica.. it should have at least 4-6 nodes and your plant should be 2-3 weeks old... and be in the process of developing a massive root structure....

It also sounds like you can monitor your plant closely.. I would increase your water quanity to 1/2 gallon and then try to go 1 complete day without giving her water... If you begin to see her droop... water her again with 1/2 gallon...

i'm in the nevada desert and it's been in the one-teens already but still only watering twice/day and mine are appx softball size too...they'll get it 3x/day once august hits or when the monsoons move on and humidity is back in the single digits. and mine are in the ground where it's a lot easier to take care of them.
